Full job description

We are looking for a Controller to lead core accounting and financial reporting activities for a very fast paced organization in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This position will oversee multi-entity finance operations, support accurate and timely reporting, and provide analysis that helps leadership make informed business decisions. The successful candidate will bring strong experience in team leadership, cross-border financial compliance, and continuous improvement within a complex operating environment.

Responsibilities:

Direct accounting and reporting activities across multiple business units to ensure financial information is complete, consistent, and delivered on schedule.
Guide and support the finance team by providing day-to-day leadership, coaching, and performance development across related operations.
Review transaction processing and account classifications to maintain accurate financial records throughout the organization.
Manage the monthly close cycle, including preparation of financial statements, management reports, and improvements that shorten reporting timelines.
Coordinate and prepare audit-ready documentation, and serve as the main contact for external auditors.
Oversee intercompany accounting by monitoring transactions, completing reconciliations, and ensuring proper eliminations between entities.
Analyze financial results, investigate variances, and present practical recommendations to senior leaders and operational stakeholders.
Prepare external financial reporting for lenders, shareholders, and executives while supporting foreign exchange accounting and exposure monitoring.
Partner with operations and senior leadership on KPI tracking, contract review, special projects, and initiatives that strengthen financial and operational performance.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
An accounting designation is preferred; equivalent senior-level experience will also be considered.
At least 10 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including leadership responsibilities.
Demonstrated success in a cross-border Canadian and U.S. business environment with knowledge of relevant financial compliance requirements.
Strong background in multi-entity accounting, intercompany reconciliations, consolidations, and foreign exchange treatment.
Proven ability to lead month-end close, improve financial processes, and manage reporting in a complex organization.
Advanced analytical, reporting, and Microsoft Excel skills, along with experience using accounting software systems.
Effective communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate across finance, operations, and senior leadership.
