St. Albert Public Schools is currently recruiting a Full-Time, Probationary, Transportation Safety & Compliance Clerk (Division Office 3 - DO3) for a work assignment in Transportation at Division Office.
The Transportation Safety & Compliance Clerk supports the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of student transportation services for both school division owned vehicles and carriers. The position monitors compliance with legislation, safety, insurance, and contractual requirements; reviews bus video footage; supports student ridership tracking; maintains safety records, compliance documentation, and operational reporting.
Hours of Work: 35.0 hrs. /week; 7.0 hrs./day; Monday-Friday; Full-Time, Probationary
Hourly Rate: $29.79 per hour, as per the CUPE Collective Agreement

Expected Duties of the Position:

Ensure legislative compliance for division owned vehicles and carriers by tracking, monitoring, and enforcing adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, and policies.

Oversee and monitor insurance/registration requirements for all division owned vehicles, ensuring coverage remains current and compliant including annual insurance distribution for division owned vehicles.

Maintain comprehensive driver records, including annual collection and tracking of driver abstract requests and results as per division policy.

Conduct National Safety Code audits on carrier units and driver files to assess safety, contractual, and legislative compliance.

Organize, coordinate, and oversee twice-yearly bus evacuation drills in collaboration with schools and carriers.

Ensure all division owned vehicles are fully equipped for annual start-up, including required documentation and safety equipment.

Perform regular compliance inspections of division owned vehicles to ensure ongoing operational readiness and safety standards are met.

Coordinate and ensure timely renewal of Safety Fitness Certificates for the division.

Manage the St. Albert Public Schools Carrier Profile for division owned vehicles, maintaining accurate records, and documentation for all fleet vehicles.

Oversee the St. Albert Public Schools Safety & Maintenance Program for all division owned vehicles.

Verify monthly timesheets and monitor driver logs according to legislated guidelines, following up as needed to ensure compliance.

Monitor student ridership tracking processes, including bus pass scanning compliance and reporting to support student accountability and accurate transportation records.

Assist in identifying and follow up on student scanning irregularities, missing scans, or non-compliance concerns with schools, drivers, and parents.

Generate and maintain reports related to student ridership and safety compliance.
- Review and monitor onboard bus video footage to assist with investigations related to student discipline, safety concerns, vandalism, accidents, and driver conduct.

Document and maintain records of video review findings and provide relevant information to school administrators and transportation staff as required.

Assist in responding to complaints, incidents, and safety concerns by gathering and reviewing video evidence.

Assist with vehicle accident and incident reports for insurance purposes and gather related documentation.

Assist schools with new vehicle purchases.
-
Attend School Bus Safety meetings to stay updated on new requirements, policies, and legislation.

Assist Transportation Services during peak times or as needed.
Required Qualifications and Experience:

Knowledge of transportation legislation, National Safety Code standards, and school transportation regulations.

Strong organizational and record-keeping skills with attention to detail.

Ability to conduct audits, inspections, and compliance reviews effectively.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills for issuing corrective actions and working collaboratively with schools, drivers, and carriers.

Ability to manage multiple deadlines, regulatory requirements, and insurance processes simultaneously.

Experience in fleet management, insurance claims, SEON/Gatekeeper video surveillance, safety program oversight, Class 2S or 4S are assets.
