Located in downtown Toronto, the largest and most culturally diverse city in Canada and on the territory of the Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee, Mississaugas of the Credit and the Wendat Peoples, the Department Criminology in the Faculty of Arts at Toronto Metropolitan University [www.torontomu.ca] invites applications for a Limited Term Faculty (LTF) position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Criminology. The appointment shall be effective August 1, 2026 for a one year term, subject to final budgetary approval.
The successful candidate will engage only in the teaching and service duties of faculty members in the Department of Criminology, while maintaining an inclusive, equitable, and collegial work environment across such activities. The successful candidate will teach these 6 classes:
- CRM100: Introduction to Canadian Criminal Justice (2 sections)
- CRM101: Understanding Crime in Canadian Society or CRM102: Introduction to Criminology
- CRM204: Criminal Justice Research and Statistics (2 sections)
- CRM406: Seminar in Criminal Justice
Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in criminology or a closely related field. The DHC will consider candidates who are all-but-dissertation (ABD) and are able to demonstrate that they are very close to completing a doctorate degree. The successful candidate must present:
- A teaching dossier including a teaching philosophy statement, sample syllabi, and strong teaching evaluations, and other relevant achievements in teaching;
- Evidence of a commitment to our values of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion as it pertains to teaching and service activities, including a demonstrated ability to make learning accessible and inclusive for a diverse student population;
- Evidence of an ability and willingness to contribute to the life of the Department of Criminology and the University through collegial service.

Note: Limited Term Faculty appointments at Toronto Metropolitan University may not exceed a combined total of four years. Applicants with prior Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) LTF appointments need to consider this limitation, as it may render them ineligible to apply.
This position falls under the jurisdiction of the Toronto Metropolitan Faculty Association (TFA) [www.tfanet.ca]. Salary will commensurate with qualifications.
