Marquee Farm has constructed a facility for a Controlled Environment Agriculture business. Utilizing automated hydroponic technology, a vertical tower system and LED lighting, we produce and package a variety of fresh vegetables, salad greens, micro-greens and other produce for the wholesale market, food service and retail at farmers’ markets. Produce is delivered to the local market at the peak of freshness for superior taste and nutritional value.
Our Controlled Environment Agriculture business is the first of its kind in the region. Marquee Farm is a leading proponent in the local food movement, supporting agritourism by participating in local farmers' markets (including the year-round market in North Bay), local events, and contributing to marketing material for local restaurants to promote local food and culinary tourism.
Opportunity:
Marquee Farm is a start-up company in the emerging field of Controlled Environment Agriculture, Vertical Farming. The opportunity for the successful candidate, Horticulture Technician/Farm Manager Trainee, is to work alongside the founder of the company and learn all aspects of the business. The new hire will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of systems and processes. The successful candidate will work with the founder to build a culture that encourages and prioritizes team-work, innovation, creative problem solving, and the professional and personal growth of all team members.
This position is anticipated to begin with part-time hours and progress to full-time.

Tasks and Responsibilities
Working alongside the Farm founder, the Horticulture Technician is responsible for:
· Propagation, cultivation and harvesting of a variety of vegetables, herbs, salad greens and micro-greens.
· Processing and packaging produce to be shipped.
· Produce deliveries.
· Receiving supplies.
· Equipment set-up, maintenance and monitoring.
· Daily cleaning and sanitizing of facilities and work surfaces.
· Ensure that all automated systems are working and maintained as required.
· Maintain Horticulture systems which include filter replacement, sensor cleaning, fault correction.
· Grounds maintenance including general yard work and work on outdoor gardens.
· Farmers’ market sales, customer service, booth set-up.
· Adherence to all workplace safety policies and procedures, including safe food handling.
· WHIMS citification required
· Assist with the writing of SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) as they relate to Horticulture
· Daily monitoring of all systems, data collection and entry. Assist with collecting and validating yield and quality data.
Preferred Qualifications, Education Requirements and Skills
· Technical Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Science, Plant Science or Horticulture or equivalent education/ experience.
· Previous experience in a manufacturing environment or agricultural practice considered an asset
· Must be able to work flexible hours as required, which may include some weekends
· Prioritizes the Health & Safety of oneself and others
· Works well independently and as part of a team
· Excellent oral and written communication skills
· Positive work attitude
· Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment
Valid Ontario Driver's Licence and clean driving record.

Pay: $20.00 per hour
