Program Overview:
The CSEC Prevention & Education Coordinator is responsible for leading the coordination of education and knowledge mobilization regarding commercial sexual exploitation of children and youth. The role will involve supporting with comprehensive curriculum development.
Core duties:
- Development of asynchronous learning modules
- Creation of new prevention curriculum and training content
- Delivery of training sessions
- Tailored delivery of training for specific sectors (including the transit sector)
- Community outreach and engagement
- Coordination of prevention-based group programing.
This role ensures that prevention education is accessible, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and aligned with the strategic directions of YWCA Halifax.
Essential Duties of Position:
Prevention Education & Curriculum Development
- Develop asynchronous online training modules related to HT/CSEC prevention
- Education and Training for the Joint Regional Transportation Agency Project
- Design and pilot new prevention education modules for diverse audiences
- Update and refine curriculum to ensure evidence-informed and culturally responsive practice
- Engage first-person voices and community consultation in the creation and delivery of education
Community Training & Sector Engagement
- Deliver in-person and virtual community training sessions
- Lead targeted sector-specific training initiatives
- Coordinate logistics, outreach and registration for community training
- Participate in stakeholder engagement
- Attend the TESS core, regional, and subcommittees
- Engage in local advisory, interagency and advocacy groups as a representative of the YWCA
Community Outreach & Prevention Programming
- Conduct outreach to increase awareness of CSEC and available YWCA resources
- Coordinate prevention-based group programming for youth
- Collaborate with other relevant YWCA programs
Program Administration
- Developing work plans for areas of responsibility, achieving goals/objectives/outcomes, and reporting on results in relation to work plans.
- Ensures that program activities operate within the polices and procedures of the YWCA, and ensures the development and implementation of appropriate operational/program procedures for designated projects and programs for approval by Director
- Ensures that program activities comply with all relevant legislation and insurance coverage
- Maintains appropriate program record-keeping in accordance with YWCA policies and procedures, and confidentiality/privacy policies
- Provides regular program reports within specific reporting schedule using provided templates
- Identifies, reports on, and evaluates the risks associated with the program activities and takes appropriate action to control the risks
- Responsible for ensuring narrative reports to funders are delivered accurately, appropriately and within deadlines.
- Ensures the planning of the overall program and its activities in accordance with the mission, goals, strategic directions, and guiding principles of the YWCA
Financial Management
- Ensures that the designated projects and programs operate within the approved budget. Responsible for management of specific, designated and approved budget lines as delegated by Director
- Ensure the program operates within approved YWCA’s financial policies and procedures, including purchase order and billing procedures
- Ensures effective management of all financial records
Working Conditions
- Coordinators usually work in an office environment, but programs and projects may take employees to non-standard workplaces (e.g. supervision on community-based programs)
- Coordinators usually work a standard work week with pre-set office hours, but may be required to work some evenings and weekends to meet project/program milestones, deadlines, or deliver programs/services. Schedules and adjustments approved by the director.
- The role may be eligible for hybrid work after the first 3 months pursuant with the YWCA’s remote work policy.
Other Duties
- Advance the vision and mission of YWCA Halifax
- Communicates with stakeholders to gain community support for programs and to solicit input on how to improve programs
- Nurtures and forms meaningful community partnerships
- Serves in community/sector task forces and committees as appropriate
- Participates in YWCA and community-based advocacy activities that are consistent with YWCA policies
- Supports partnerships, extension work, and other activities within the YWCA movement
- Identifies and pursues opportunities for personal and professional development
- Ensures the maintenance of all files, information systems, and databases related to areas of responsibility
- Develops new initiatives to support the strategic directions of the YWCA
- Other duties as delegated by the Director
Qualifications and Experience:
- Undergraduate degree in related field or equivalent experience,
- Solid understanding of issues such as violence against women, trafficking, cyberviolence, sexual health, poverty, discrimination, gender and physical activity, media influences etc., and how they impact girls, women, and gender- diverse people both locally and globally
- Understanding of program management and evaluation in an outcomes-based framework
- Strong administrative skills, strong financial management skills, organizational development and advocacy skills and an ability to work independently and in a team environment, effective interpersonal skills
- High level of computer literacy
- Ability to maintain collaborative partnerships, internal and external to the organization.
