Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role located in Halifax, NS for a Senior Accountant. This position offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced accountant looking to expand their responsibilities within a growing organization and develop toward future leadership opportunities.

Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant will support the day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting for a growing real estate portfolio. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, strengthening internal controls, improving processes, and providing financial insights that support business decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
Analyze financial results and variances, providing insights and recommendations
Prepare internal and external financial reports.
Lead the preparation and maintenance of the general ledger, including journal entries and reconciliations.
Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records
Coordinate and execute month-end and year-end close activities.
Support the efficiency and accuracy of the accounts payable and receivable functions.
Support the timely processing of billing, collections, and vendor payments
Prepare and review bank reconciliations and support cash flow monitoring
Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting policies
Support audits by preparing documentation and responding to auditor requests
Support routine tax filings
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy in accounting processes
Collaborate with operations and leadership teams to provide financial insights
Support property managers or department leaders with budget tracking and cost analysis
Act as a key point of contact for accounting-related questions

Qualifications

3–5 years of progressive accounting experience
Experience preparing financial statements and completing month-end close
Proficiency in ERP / Accounting software
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Knowledge of tax compliance, financial regulations, and audit processes
Analytical thinking, attention to detail, and ability to present financial data clearly
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and prioritize tasks effectively
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA designation considered an asset)
Previous experience in property management or real estate accounting is an asset
