Job Title: Quality Assurance (QA) Inspector – Tube Mill / Metal Manufacturing
Job Summary
The QA Inspector is responsible for performing in-process and final inspections of metal products within a tube mill and manufacturing facility. This role ensures that all materials and finished products meet required specifications, standards, and customer requirements. Working closely with engineering and production teams, the QA inspector conducts hands-on testing at the production floor level, including hardness and tensile (tensile strength) testing, and reports findings to the quality engineer.

Key Responsibilities
Inspection & Quality Control

Perform in-process and final inspections of tubes and metal products to ensure compliance with specifications, drawings, and customer requirements.
Verify dimensions, tolerances, surface quality, and straightness using appropriate measuring tools.
Monitor production processes to ensure consistent quality output.

Material Testing (Critical Function)

Conduct hardness testing (e.g., Rockwell, Brinell, or equivalent) on raw materials and finished products.
Perform or assist with tensile (strength) testing to verify mechanical properties meet specified standards.
Prepare test samples and document test results accurately.
Interpret test data and identify non-conforming materials.

Floor-Level Quality Support

Work directly on the production floor (tube mill and cutting mill) to ensure quality standards are maintained in real time.
Support operators and setup teams by verifying first-off parts and during changeovers.
Identify quality issues early and communicate them immediately to prevent defects or rework.

Reporting & Documentation

Record inspection and test results in quality logs, reports, or digital systems.
Report findings, trends, and non-conformances to the Quality Engineer.
Assist in root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
Maintain inspection records in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.

Compliance & Standards

Ensure all products meet internal specifications and applicable industry standards (e.g., ASTM, CSA, ISO, etc.).
Follow all quality procedures, work instructions, and testing protocols.
Participate in internal audits and quality improvement initiatives.

Collaboration

Work closely with engineers, production supervisors, and maintenance teams to resolve quality issues.
Provide feedback on process improvements to enhance product quality and efficiency.
Support continuous improvement initiatives across the facility.

Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience

Diploma or certification in quality assurance, manufacturing, metallurgy, or a related field (preferred).
2–5+ years of QA/QC experience in a metal manufacturing or tube mill environment.
Experience with mechanical testing (hardness and tensile testing) is required.

Technical Skills

Strong knowledge of inspection techniques and quality standards in metal manufacturing.
Hands-on experience with:
Hardness testing equipment (Rockwell, Brinell, etc.)
Tensile testing equipment and procedures
Measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges)
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and test requirements.
Familiarity with quality documentation and reporting systems.

Soft Skills

High attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Effective communication skills for reporting and collaboration.
Ability to work independently on the production floor.

Work Conditions

Industrial manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, heat, and heavy machinery.
Significant time spent on the production floor (tube mill and cutting areas).
May involve handling metal samples, testing equipment, and standing for extended periods.
Shift work may be required.
