Industry: Oil & Gas / Carbon Capture / Acid Gas Injection / Dehydration / Emerging Technology
About the Opportunity
Tired of maintaining the same old PLC program year after year? So are we — which is why we’re not doing that. This isn’t a “keep the lights on” role. It’s a ground-floor opportunity to help shape the next generation of our control platform.
We’re actively developing the HCC2 — a new control platform that will take the place of our current PLC system. You’ll be the person who vets it, integrates it into what we do, and rebuilds the program from scratch the right way. You’ll develop application modules, explore remote connectivity via Starlink and 4G, investigate machine learning applications at the control system level. Sound like a challenge? Good. That’s the point.
You’ll be part of a small, tight-knit team where your fingerprints are on everything — from new product architecture to live field startups. Flexible work-from-home is available when you’re not boots-on-ground at a site.
Key ResponsibilitiesPLC, HMI & Control Systems (Including HCC2 — the New Frontier)
- Lead the evaluation and integration of the HCC2 control platform — this is a clean-slate rebuild, and it’s yours to architect. Develop application modules and own the program structure going forward
- Develop, modify, and troubleshoot Allen‑Bradley Studio 5000 (ControlLogix/CompactLogix) programs
- Configure and deploy PanelView Plus 7 Performance HMI applications
- Integrate systems using EtherNet/IP, DCS interfaces, and industrial communication protocols
- Support data logging, historian integration, and remote monitoring systems
- Track software version control across site locations, and help us setup Starlink and/or 4G remote access solutions for startup support and ongoing remote monitoring
Field Commissioning & Instrumentation (Where the Real Fun Happens)
- Lead field commissioning, startups, loop checks, and cause-and-effect testing — including programming TOp units, which requires real process understanding to do right
- Diagnose and resolve instrumentation, control logic, and communication issues
- Conduct P&ID walkdowns, verify I/O, and ensure system readiness for operation
- Instrument calibration and setup (pressure, temperature, flow, analyzers, etc.)
- Provide customer technical support with professionalism
- Willing to travel as required, including remote sites and occasional cross‑border travel (USA and International)
Electrical Design & Documentation (Asset, Not a Deal-Breaker)
- Review heat trace designs, wiring diagrams, panel drawings, and P&IDs
- Apply proper wire sizing based on load, distance, and code requirements
- Apply correct wire color coding for AC and DC circuits
- Use proper electrical symbology for schematics, panel layouts, and field wiring
- Collaborate with engineering, fabrication, and field teams to deliver reliable, safe systems
- Professional Engineering Stamping of drawings would be an asset
Required Qualifications
- Proficiency in Allen‑Bradley Studio 5000 (ControlLogix/CompactLogix)
- Strong experience with PanelView Plus 7 Performance HMI development
- Solid understanding of EtherNet/IP communication and industrial networking
- Experience with DCS interface requirements and integration
- Knowledge of data logger operation and historian systems
- Strong instrumentation knowledge (sensors, transmitters, etc.)
- Proven field experience: commissioning, start‑up, troubleshooting, and controls validation
- Understanding of typical oil & gas processes (compression, separation, dehydration, etc.)
- Valid driver’s license
- Able to travel cross‑border (USA and International as required)
Bonus Skills
- ISaGRAF — the current ladder logic language in the HCC2, so if you know ISaGRAF now, you’re ahead of the curve). Python, Linux, and embedded systems experience also very welcome
- Process troubleshooting knowledge — when things go sideways on a startup, you’ll be in a live facility with H2S and/or CO2. Knowing your way around amine systems, compressors, and separation equipment means you can help solve the real problem, not just the controls symptom
- Remote communication systems — Starlink, 4G/LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth. We want to build out proper remote access for startup and ongoing support for remote locations
- Understanding of carbon capture, compression, and CO₂ transportation systems
- Machine learning / AI curiosity — we’re interested in exploring targeted, lower-level ML applications within the control system.
- Heat trace system design experience
- Familiarity with Ametek 5100HD analyzer systems
- Drafting skills (controls, electrical, panel layouts, wiring diagrams)
Personal Attributes
- Thrives in a small, cooperative team environment
- Adaptable and comfortable taking on a variety of responsibilities as priorities evolve
- High interpersonal awareness — able to work with customers and diverse personalities
- Self‑motivated, curious, and eager to contribute to technology development
- Strong communicator with a practical, hands‑on mindset
