About The Gift of Hearing

The Gift of Hearing is a nonprofit on a mission to bring hearing back to people who can't afford it. We collect gently used hearing aids, refurbish them through partnered clinics, and travel to Yamasá, Dominican Republic to test, fit, and place them with people who would otherwise live without sound.

Closer to home, we also support Canadians — through education, awareness, and access to care for those who need a hand. It's small, it's scrappy, it's deeply meaningful work — and it changes lives every trip.

We're a small team, supported by People Hearing. You'll work out of the People Hearing office with access to their marketing team, tools, vendors and resources.

About the role

We're looking for a Program Coordinator to help us grow. You'll build awareness around hearing loss, coordinate hearing aid collection campaigns, support fundraising, and help plan our next Yamasá trip. If you want a summer where the work actually matters, and you can point to lives changed because of what you did, this is it.

What you'll work on

Awareness & education — build campaigns that educate Canadians about hearing loss and what we do; create content for social and partner channels
Hearing aid collection — coordinate with partnered hearing clinics across Canada to set up and run donation drives; track inventory; manage logistics
Fundraising — design and run campaigns to raise money for refurbishment, travel, and supplies; explore grants and corporate sponsorships
Event coordination — work with community groups, churches, service clubs, and partner organizations to host awareness and fundraising events
Trip planning — support logistics for our next Yamasá mission: scheduling, supplies, volunteer coordination, partner communications
Storytelling — capture and share the stories of donors, volunteers, and recipients (with consent) to keep the mission visible

You're a great fit if you

Care. About people, about impact, about doing work that adds up to something
Are organized and proactive — you can plan an event, run a campaign, and follow up on the details
Communicate well — comfortable reaching out to partners, donors, and community groups
Can write a compelling post, email, or pitch
Are comfortable working independently and bringing ideas to the table
Have basic comfort with social media, Google Workspace / Microsoft 365, and design tools like Canva.

Bonus points for

Coursework or experience in nonprofit work, communications, public health, international development, or fundraising
Spanish language skills (helpful for Yamasá work, not required)
Event planning, volunteer coordination, or community organizing experience
A connection to hearing loss, audiology, or healthcare

Canada Summer Jobs eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must:

Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
Be legally entitled to work in Canada
