The Quality Assurance (QA) Department within Engineering Services has a great opportunity for an engineer to join the
team. We’re looking for candidates with a knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, testing, and inspection and
test plans. As a member this team of QA engineers and technologists, you will develop risk-based supplier assessments
and quality surveillance strategies for a wide range of Transmission and Distribution (T&D) stations and lines hardware and
equipment, coordinate material quality requirements, and perform supplier evaluation activities such as factory audits and
production inspections. You’ll also work with suppliers to address product defects. The QA Department establishes
requirements for supplier evaluations and manufacturing surveillance, including test and inspection activities. Team
members work closely with engineering teams, supply chain, contract management, construction management, BC Hydro’s
project delivery organizations, and suppliers to ensure that purchased material and services meet specification and quality
assurance-related contract requirements.
This role is suitable for an individual who enjoys working on a variety of concurrent projects, tasks, and initiatives. A
background in the following, or similar, engineering disciplines is desired:
- materials
- process
- manufacturing
- physics
- mechanical
- electrical.
In this role, you will:
- Design risk-based quality surveillance strategies for T&D equipment and materials.
- Draw on your technical expertise to establish acceptance criteria, review and comment on manufacturer test plans, and
design risk-based quality surveillance strategies for system hardware and equipment.
- Be comfortable working in manufacturing facilities and be able to apply knowledge of test specifications and standards to
ensure compliance.
- Lead the resolution of non-conformities.
- Work closely with and provide guidance to other engineering teams, supply chain, materials management, contract
management, and suppliers to ensure that purchased materials and services meet contractual requirements.
- Be a key player in managing supplier relationships, which includes evaluating proposals, performing supplier evaluations
and surveillance activities, and monitoring supplier improvement plans.
- Craft well-written reports, memos, and requirements documents.
- Review work of the team and of consultants and contractors to ensure accuracy, achievement of required results, and
adherence to accepted engineering practice.
- Impart engineering knowledge and encourage the professional development of engineers and technical staff.
- Balance your business sense, communication skills, and technical knowledge to deliver efficient, technically acceptable
solutions when faced with challenges.
- Be self-motivated and enjoy working on a variety of concurrent projects.
- Analyze data to assess supplier performance.
