About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Project Estimator to support our construction and demolition operations. This role is responsible for reviewing project plans and specifications, performing accurate material and labor takeoffs, preparing cost estimates and proposals, and collaborating closely with project managers and field teams to ensure bids are competitive and comprehensive. The ideal candidate has strong analytical and communication skills, a solid understanding of construction methods and materials, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
· Conduct a high-level review of all incoming tenders.
· Quantity take-off and cost quantification.
- Hazardous materials risk assessment and integration of abatement methodologies into estimate development.
- Development of comprehensive estimates including direct costs, indirect costs, general conditions, escalation factors, productivity assumptions, and contingency allowances.
- Completion of site investigations and pre-bid due diligence to assess access, logistics, and operational constraints.
- Preparation of estimate documentation, bid summaries, clarifications, and proposal submissions.
- Application of safety-driven planning principles and incorporation of regulatory controls into estimating assumptions.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tenders under strict deadlines while maintaining estimate accuracy and commercial integrity.
- Develop various types of estimates for proposals including establishing the estimating scope of work, preparing of the estimate methodology and basis of estimate as well as producing the overall estimate schedule identifying all deliverables and interfaces with other disciplines.
- Review and analyze job actual costing vs. bid and appropriately modify estimate library for future bids.
- Conduct site visits to verify project scope, assess existing site conditions, and gather information required for accurate cost estimates and bid preparation. Identify potential challenges, develop project-specific questions and clarifications, and communicate findings with clients, consultants, and project teams to ensure complete and competitive proposals.

Qualifications & Skills
· Competency in quantity take-off, cost modelling, and bid preparation for demolition and hazardous materials remediation scopes.
· Working knowledge of containment systems, negative air requirements, decontamination facilities, waste profiling, and disposal logistics (preferred).
· Proficiency in Excel, Adobe software, spreadsheet-based cost analysis, and digital take-off platforms.
· Ability to interpret architectural, structural, environmental, and hazardous materials assessment documentation.
· Understanding of project scheduling impacts, phasing constraints, and productivity rate development in occupied or sensitive environments.
· Familiarity with contract structures, procurement models, and tender compliance requirements.
· Strong analytical and risk-evaluation capability in developing realistic execution strategies and cost contingencies.
· High level of attention to detail and documentation accuracy to support defensible bid submissions.
· Communicate estimate specifics to operations and all key support departments (supply chain, finance, HR, IT) upon contract execution.
· Innovative and flexible when collaborating with project teams to quickly assess changing requirements or scope revisions.
· Collaborates with field teams and project managers to detect, document and price scope deviations or extras.

Educations and Certifications
Required:
- A valid AB Class 5 drivers license is required to travel to site/tender walkthroughs.
- Willingness to obtain or already hold standard tickets (WHMIS, CSTS 2019)
- Ability to navigate terrain, climb ladders and comply with OH&S regulations.
- University degree or college diploma (business, engineering or architectural preferred)
- Effective time management and logical decision-making ability
- Ability to secure security clearance for restricted job sites (e.g., government buildings, schools, airports, or industrial plants)
