Position Overview:
We are currently hiring an experienced Railway Construction Foreman to lead and manage field crews on rail maintenance and construction projects across Canada. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing daily operations, coordinating crews and equipment, ensuring safety compliance, and delivering projects efficiently and to standard. The Foreman works closely with crews, managers, and clients to ensure successful project execution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, supervise, and mentor railway construction crews in day-to-day field operations
- Plan and coordinate daily work activities, crew assignments, and job sequencing
- Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to project specifications
- Oversee rail tie replacement, track upgrades, bridge work, and general rail construction activities
- Enforce all company, client, and regulatory safety policies and procedures
- Conduct toolbox talks, safety meetings, and on-site hazard assessments
- Monitor productivity, quality of work, and crew performance
- Communicate effectively with management regarding progress, issues, and resource needs
- Operate tools and equipment as required and lead by example in the field
- Complete required documentation, reports, and time tracking
- Travel and stay out of town for extended periods (accommodations provided)
Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a Foreman or Lead Hand in railway construction and maintenance
- Strong leadership, communication, and crew management skills
- Solid understanding of railway construction practices and safety standards
- Ability to read plans, follow schedules, and prioritize tasks
- Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in various weather and terrain
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license (required)
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing
- Willingness to work in remote locations and stay on-site as required
