This position is casual and the hours will be as needed.
Pay:
Starting Wage is $29.00 (with a class 4 drivers license) & $22.00 (no class 4 drivers license), plus shift differentials as applicable.
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Active Living Manager this position assists with the planning, organizing and implementation of recreation programs to meet the interests and needs of the residents. Day-to-day facilitation of programs for residents in independent living Apartments. Assists with the creation and delivery of diversified programs and services to meet the physical, cognitive, social, emotional and spiritual needs of all residents. Provides participants with a safe and comfortable environment by remaining aware of and following health and safety policies and procedures. May be responsible for “Emergency Response” for the building and its occupants during designated evening shifts and/or on bus outings.

- Excellent communication skills, tact, diplomacy and good judgment
- Strong ability to motivate others through gentle persuasion to achieve the desired result
- Demonstrated ability to work well with seniors and the general public
- Professional, confidential and strong time management skills
- Strong ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and be well organized
Qualifications:
- Standard First Aid Certificate with CPR C
- Class 4 BC Driver’s License
- Food Save and Serving It Right
- Preferably qualified with a degree in leisure studies or a Certificate in Recreation with a minimum of 3 years as a program facilitator
- Proficient with MS Office: Excel, Word and Outlook
Experience:
- Related experience working with seniors and/or with supporting recreation or leisure programs would be an asset
- Experience with assisting at events would be an asset

- Demonstrates a commitment to providing the highest quality of customer service
- Self driven individual who thrives on working in a team environment
- Demonstrated ability to multitask and still maintain focus on priorities
Note: At Berwick we understand the importance of immunization to protect our residents, team members and visitors from COVID-19. As such, a prerequisite of employment is that all new hires are vaccinated as approved by Health Canada. A current TB test and criminal record check are also required pursuant to the Criminal Records Review Act for working with vulnerable adults.
