System Hardware Engineering Tester – Natus Neuro
Location: Oakville, Canada
Job Summary
Natus Neuro is seeking a highly skilled System Tester to play a key role in ensuring the quality and reliability of our current product portfolio and next-generation medical devices. In this role, you will be instrumental in verifying that our platforms meet the highest performance, regulatory, and safety standards.
As a System Tester, you will work in a dynamic, collaborative environment, partnering with software, hardware, product security, and engineering teams to test, validate, and document system performance across all product lines. Your work will directly contribute to delivering innovative and high-quality medical technology to healthcare providers and patients worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
Hardware testing
- Create and own end-to-end test infrastructures
- Create hardware verification plans, test cases, and automated test protocols based on system architecture and design requirements.
- Continuous collaboration and constant communication with the Hardware, Software, Cloud, and Manufacturing engineering teams to develop test plans, test stations, and validation strategies based on technical requirements
- Strong expertise in the bring-up and debugging of custom digital hardware with microcontrollers, application processors, and various analog/digital peripherals.
- Test and analyze wired (Ethernet, USB, RS-232, UART) and wireless devices(BLE, Wi-Fi, cellular) for security, reliability, and networked connectivity for control or transmission of sensitive clinical data
- Perform pre-compliance and formal testing for global medical standards, including IEC 60601 (Safety/EMC), RoHS, and environmental limits
- Hands-on proficiency with lab instruments (oscilloscopes, function generators, RF network analyzers, power supplies)
System Maintenance & Compliance
- Perform comprehensive manual and automated testing of systems designed for patient data collection, monitoring, analysis, and review.
- Develop, maintain, and update test protocols and documentation to ensure continued compliance and system functionality.
System Development & Integration
- Conduct rigorous testing and verification of wired or battery-powered systems integrating embedded microcontrollers, Android tablets, cloud workflows, Microsoft Azure, and Windows networking components.
- Configure and validate multi-device setups, focusing on Windows networking, cloud connectivity, web APIs, web applications, and portal functionality.
- Generate detailed verification reports, documenting system setup, configurations, deviations, and test results.
Testing & Quality Assurance
- Develop and refine test protocols based on detailed software requirements to ensure thorough and accurate verification.
- Execute comprehensive test cases for both existing products and next-generation Natus medical technology.
- Conduct web API and application testing to ensure seamless integration and robust functionality.
- Identify, document, and manage software defects using JIRA or similar tools.
- Prepare detailed verification reports in compliance with regulatory and quality assurance standards.
- Execute test automation scripts to improve testing efficiency and accuracy.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Compliance
- Work closely with product security and engineering teams to troubleshoot and verify system features.
Ensure all testing activities comply with FDA, ISO, and GMP standards and adhere to quality system procedures.
Required Qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience in software/system/Hardware testing
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (or 10 years of equivalent work experience).
- 3-5 years of experience in software/system/Hardware testing.
- Expertise in Windows-based and Android-based systems.
- Experience using issue-tracking tools such as JIRA or similar platforms.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to document and present findings clearly.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in Windows networking, including advanced configuration and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with web API and application testing.
- Proven expertise in cloud-based system testing, particularly Microsoft Azure.
- Familiarity with Android tablet ecosystems and workflows.
- Knowledge of FDA/cGMP/QSR/IEC and ISO standards related to medical devices.
- At least 2 years of experience in the medical device industry.
- Hands-on experience with test automation tools and scripting languages.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments.
- Familiarity with requirements management tools such as Jama.
- Familiarity with software revision control tools such as Git and GitHub.
- Understanding of the Software/System Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
- Understanding of python, C, C#, and object-oriented programming concepts.

Canada Pay Transparency Clause
