The Opportunity
We are currently seeking an experienced Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic (Off road) to join our team in Fort McMurray.
This is a 14 days on / 14 days off rotation, working on-site in an oilfield environment, operating a fully equipped service truck. The role primarily involves servicing and repairing a wide range of off road heavy duty equipment in the oilfield service and maintenance sector.
This position is ideal for a self-driven, field-ready mechanic who can work independently, troubleshoot efficiently, and perform under pressure in demanding environments.
What You’ll Do
● Operate a fully equipped field service truck to perform diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on heavy-duty off-road equipment at customer sites.
● Diagnose and repair a wide range of off-road equipment, including oilfield, construction, mining, forestry, and industrial machinery.
● Respond to breakdowns and emergency service calls in the field to minimize equipment downtime.
● Perform preventative maintenance inspections, repairs, and component replacements.
● Inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain:
● Diesel engines, fuel systems, cooling systems, exhaust systems, and engine electronic controls.
● Powertrain components including transmissions, torque converters, differentials, final drives, PTOs, suspensions, steering, and braking systems.
● Hydraulic systems including pumps, motors, cylinders, valves, hoses, and control systems.
● Electrical and electronic systems, charging systems, starting systems, sensors, and diagnostic controls.
● Undercarriage, structural, and mechanical components of off-road equipment.
● Utilize diagnostic software, electronic service tools, and manufacturer service information to troubleshoot equipment faults.
● Complete detailed work orders, inspection reports, service records, and time sheets accurately and promptly.
● Maintain service truck inventory, specialized tooling, and company equipment in a safe and serviceable condition.
● Ensure all repairs meet manufacturer specifications, company standards, and customer expectations.
● Follow all company safety policies, site-specific safety requirements, and applicable legislation.
● Communicate effectively with customers, supervisors, dispatch, and team members regarding repair status, recommendations, and equipment condition.
● Mentor apprentices and provide technical guidance when required.
● Maintain a valid Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician certification and comply with all required training and certifications.
What You Bring
- Journeyman Off Road Heavy Duty Technician (Required)
- Valid Class 5 License (or higher) with clean driver’s abstract
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work independently in remote/site environments
- High attention to detail and pride in workmanship
