ACCOUNTABILITY / OBJECTIVE:
Under the direction of the Environmental Services Manager, supervises the delivery of all housekeeping and laundry services.
Is accountable and responsible for the overall cleanliness of the Residence to include:
- Overseeing/responsible for the quality control of the cleaning of suites, adjacent hallways and storage areas.
- Overseeing/responsible for the quality control and cleaning of all common areas, laundry rooms, public washrooms and spa room.
- Overseeing/responsible for the quality control and delivery of all in-house laundry services.
- Deals with all housekeeping resident complaints and resolves problems.
BACKGROUND / QUALIFICATIONS:
- The incumbent must be a high school graduate who has had some formal training in or prior proven experience in working professionally with senior clientele. Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing must have a positive self-image and the ability to nurture excellent human relations with residents, families and other team members.
- Experience in a leadership role in a housekeeping/hospitality setting is preferred.
- Basic computer literacy and must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and written, in the English language.
- Ability to be a team leader, work independently, be flexible and versatile, and be able to demonstrate initiative and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of WHMIS and Infection control procedures.
- Must have a service orientation and a love for seniors.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible to perform and sign off on all new resident housekeeping orientations.
- Overseeing/responsible for and/or completing the clean-ups of all suite turnovers. Responsible to organize and ensure all services are met daily and weekly for guest and respite suites.
- Ensures the delivery of all housekeeping services to residents reflects the high quality standards of the Residence.
- Recognizes safety hazards and assists in maintaining a safe, neat, clean environment for residents and staff. It is every employee’s responsibility to report any unsafe work condition immediately.
- Participates in the Residence’s ongoing Fire Prevention, Continuous Quality Improvement, Occupational Health and Safety, and Infection Control programs as required.
- Participates in weekly interdisciplinary meetings with the focus on reporting and consulting with all other departments regarding the safety and well-being of each resident.
- Responsible for ongoing performance management, to include daily coaching and follow-up of task delegation. Responsible for timely completion of all probationary and annual performance reviews for all housekeeping & laundry employees.
- Responsible for daily and weekly maintenance of housekeeping equipment.
- Responsible to schedule all shifts and direct extra responsibilities daily to account for housekeeper’s extra time in the case of empty rooms, hospitalization etc.
- Responsible for hiring/training/overseeing and directing housekeepers, daytime laundry attendant.
- Accountable for vacation scheduling and ensuring all shifts are adequately covered.
- Responsible for monthly housekeeping meetings with minutes for month-end report.
- Attends and contributes to weekly round-up meetings with marketing and maintenance regarding status of all empty suites and turnovers.
- Responsible to keep informed of current trends in housekeeping and laundry delivery.
- Responsible for and accountable for compliance with the Retirement Homes Act.
- Ensures effective team communication within the residence, logs any concerns re: resident behavior, via CQI incident reports. Maintains effective and oral and written communication and good human relations with residents, families and staff of other departments, using appropriate lines of communication. Demonstrates outstanding public relations skills with residents, potential clients, staff and all persons visiting the Residence.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Environmental Services Manger or delegate.
- Complies with all corporate policies and procedures.
- Completes all required mandatory training/education.
- Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System/Globally Harmonized System. This includes recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in in-services and fire drills. Participates in the ongoing Fire Prevention, and Pest Control programs and any other programs as required.
