Wesgrove Homes | Lead Carpenter | Delta, BC
At Wesgrove Homes we build home additions, ADUs, and renovations across Ladner, Tsawwassen, Steveston, and Richmond. These are the communities we live and work in, and we're invested in the neighbourhoods and the people in them. That commitment is a big part of who we are, and we want it to matter to the person we hire too.
We're looking for a Lead Carpenter who takes pride in their work and knows how to run a job site. Retention is our number one goal. We believe the right person is irreplaceable, and we invest in the people who build with us.
The role
You'll run the on-site build, do the hands-on carpentry, and keep projects on schedule, on scope, and on budget. Much of our work is subcontracted, so a big part of this role is coordinating and managing trade partners on-site day-to-day. You may also have a carpenter apprentice to direct and mentor. You'll report to the Project Manager and serve as the point person on-site for quality, safety, and trade coordination.
This role has a future. Ideally you're someone who wants to grow into a Project Manager position over time, and we'll invest in developing the right person to get there. If leading projects start to finish is where you want to end up, this is a path to it.
What you'll do
- Run day-to-day site activities and keep work on schedule and on scope
- Complete the hands-on carpentry: framing, finishing, layout, concrete, doors and windows, interior and exterior work
- Coordinate and manage trade partners on site, tracking progress and quality
- Direct and mentor a carpenter apprentice when one is on the crew
- Manage site materials and equipment and forecast site needs with the Project Manager
- Read plans and flag issues before they cost time on site
- Keep every site clean, organized, and safe
What we're looking for
- 10+ years on the tools in residential construction
- Strong background in renovations and home additions, framing, and interior and exterior finishing
- Experience coordinating and managing trade partners on site
- Able to read architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical plans
- Working knowledge of the BC Building Code
- Comfortable communicating with clients and trades on site
- Interested in growing into a Project Manager role, with the drive to be groomed for it
- Detail-oriented, organized, and calm under deadline pressure
- Written and spoken English
- Valid driver's license, work vehicle, and basic hand tools
- OFA Level 1 is an asset
What we offer
- Full-time, year-round work starting at $40/hour, with room to grow based on experience
- A clear path toward a Project Manager role for the right person
- Full benefits package after a 3-month probation period
- A team that values quality and treats its people as irreplaceable
This is a senior role, so the experience is a must. What sets the right person apart beyond that is attitude and drive. If you're a skilled carpenter who wants to do great work and build a career in a fast-paced shop, we want to hear from you.
