Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Supporting the GO Expansion Operations team, this role provides technical support for the planning and development of future railway infrastructure. Responsibilities include extracting and analyzing civil design data to verify compliance with engineering and technical requirements and using this information to develop schematics and models. These outputs establish specifications and constraints for infrastructure projects, ensuring value for money and alignment with strategic and operational requirements.
This role is an in‑office position based at our downtown location. Our team is highly collaborative, and much of our work benefits from in‑person co‑creation, relationship‑building, and hands‑on partnership with leaders across the organization.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
- Completion of a University Degree in Engineering and rail sector or related industry experience, or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
- Demonstrated years’ of experience in the asset class ,or related engineering disciplines or a combination of design, delivery, testing and commissioning, operations, and maintenance of railway systems in a comparable role.
- Certifications or Designations - P.Eng, designation or C.E.T. certification will be an asset.
- Experience working with a variety of drawings, including civil, signaling, survey, architectural, and geometry drawings.
- Proficiency in Excel is required, with experience in AutoCAD and Bluebeam considered an asset.
- Schematic production capabilities, including the ability to prepare clear visual schematics is also an asset
- Knowledgeable in and able to deploy change management, risk management and performance assessment initiatives to be able to support the team and make timely decisions to manage risk and address issues.
- Proficient in asset class engineering knowledge and functional duties to be able to support the representation of the discipline.
- Proficient in the aspects of the engineering discipline for engineering, design, planning, validation, transition to operations
- Knowledgeable in applicable industry, legal and regulatory standards, and requirements respective to the asset class (e.g. Transport Canada (TC), Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), Association of American Railroads (AAR), Railway Association of Canada (RAC), Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR).
Knowledgeable in and able to support the development of recommendations for and performance criteria that will be incorporated into third party service agreements and the use of analysis results to drive the development of RAMS requirements for asset classes at a system and sub-system level.
