Line Cook (Temporary)

Location:
Scarborough, ON (Finch Avenue East)

Pay Rate:
$19.00 per hour

Start Date:
As soon as possible

Schedule

5 days per week
Tuesday to Saturday
Morning shift 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Afternoon shift 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM
2-hour unpaid break between shifts
Must be available to work every other Saturday
Regular days off: Sunday and Monday

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and reliable Line Cook to support our kitchen operations on a temporary basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and cooking nutritious meals for a diverse adult customer base, while ensuring compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health standards. This role requires strong organizational skills, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to providing high-quality food service in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and cook meals according to established menus and recipes.
Create menu options that meet the nutritional and dietary needs of a diverse adult customer base.
Prepare customized meals for customers with dietary restrictions and special requirements.
Assist with planning and catering for special events, meetings, and social functions as needed.
Inspect food deliveries for quality and quantity and report any concerns.
Maintain proper food storage, handling, preparation, and sanitation practices.
Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, workstations, and food preparation areas daily.
Monitor kitchen operations to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
Report equipment repair, maintenance, purchasing, and safety concerns to the supervisor in a timely manner.
Support overall kitchen efficiency and contribute to a positive team environment.

Qualifications Required

Community College Diploma in Culinary Arts or equivalent culinary training.
Valid Vulnerable Sector Check (or ability to obtain one).
Minimum one (1) year of experience preparing meals for 35 or more people.
Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and safe food handling practices.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Strong time management and organizational skills.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen.

Preferred

Experience working in a retirement residence, long-term care facility, healthcare setting, or institutional kitchen.
Food Handler Certification.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand for extended periods.
Ability to work in a hot kitchen environment.
Exposure to hot food and beverages.
Ability to safely handle sharp and hot kitchen equipment.
Ability to perform repetitive kitchen tasks and lift supplies as required.
