Overview
The Project Engineering Technologist provides technical support throughout the planning, design, execution, and completion of engineering projects, including electrical/electronic systems, sensors, communications, and ITS/infrastructure-related equipment. Reporting to the Project Engineering Manager in the Project Engineering department, this role works closely with engineers, project managers, operations teams, and external stakeholders, contributing to the successful delivery of projects by preparing technical documentation, developing engineering drawings, coordinating project activities, conducting field work, and ensuring compliance with applicable standards and specifications.
Responsibilities
Project Engineering & Technical Support

Support the planning, design, execution, and commissioning of engineering projects.

Support technical deliverables, including engineering drawings, site layouts, specifications, wiring diagrams, installation drawings, BOMs, test documentation, and as-built updates.

Coordinate technical activities to support successful project delivery within scope, schedule, and budget.

Collaborate with engineers, project managers, operations personnel, contractors, vendors, and clients to support project execution.

Track project progress and communicate technical updates, risks, and issues to the project team.

Support procurement and vendor coordination by reviewing technical submissions and equipment specifications.

Support project closeout activities, including as-built documentation and field redline updates.
Design & Technical Analysis

Perform engineering calculations, technical evaluations, and feasibility assessments.

Review engineering designs for accuracy, constructability, and compliance with project requirements.

Recommend design improvements and practical solutions to enhance project performance, reliability, and efficiency.

Interpret and apply engineering standards, codes, and specifications.
Documentation & Reporting

Maintain accurate and organized project documentation throughout the project lifecycle.

Prepare technical reports, design packages, progress updates, and project records.

Ensure engineering documentation is current, complete, and properly controlled.
Quality & Compliance

Verify that engineering work complies with applicable codes, industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company procedures.

Participate in inspections, testing, and quality assurance activities.

Assist in resolving technical issues and implementing corrective actions as required.
Field Support

Conduct site visits, field inspections, and data collection activities.

Verify existing site conditions and support installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting efforts.

Provide technical assistance during construction and project implementation.

Qualifications
Education & Experience

Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.

Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience may be considered.

Minimum of two years of experience supporting engineering or technical projects.

Experience working in manufacturing, industrial, transportation, infrastructure, or technology environments is considered an asset.

Experience supporting multidisciplinary engineering projects is preferred.
Technical Skills

Proficiency with CAD software such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks.

Working knowledge of engineering principles, drafting standards, and technical documentation.

Experience interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and technical standards.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with project management software such as Microsoft Project or Primavera is an asset.
