SUMMARY:
The Electrical Controls Technician is a hands-on production and field-installation position responsible for building, wiring, cabling, testing, troubleshooting, servicing, and installing the electrical and control systems used throughout complete cyclotron systems. The work includes electrical and control cabinets, in-house cable fabrication, cyclotrons, beamlines, target stations, transfer systems, sensors, solenoid valves, motors, pumps, actuators, interlocks, and other field devices. The successful candidate will work from electrical drawings and cable schedules, support Factory Acceptance Testing, and travel internationally to assist with installation, Site Acceptance Testing, commissioning, service, and maintenance at customer sites. This is not primarily a desk-based or construction-electrical role.
What You'll Do:
- Assemble and wire electrical and control cabinets, junction boxes, operator stations, PCB modules, and related electrical assemblies according to approved drawings and workmanship standards.
- Fabricate, identify, and test cable assemblies and wire harnesses in-house, including cutting, stripping, crimping, soldering, ferrules, lugs, connectors, backshells, heat-shrink, and labels.
- Route, secure, and terminate cables throughout cyclotrons, beamlines, target stations, transfer systems, and supporting equipment.
- Install and connect sensors, limit and proximity switches, pressure, temperature and vacuum devices, solenoid valves, actuators, motors, pumps, power supplies, and safety interlocks.
- Complete PLC I/O wiring, 24 VDC control wiring, analog and digital signal wiring, communication cabling, grounding and bonding, and applicable power wiring.
- Perform basic mechanical assembly required for electrical installation, including measuring, layout, drilling, tapping, deburring, fitting, fastening, and mounting devices, brackets, cable supports, trays, junction boxes, and enclosures.
- Read and follow electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, terminal plans, cable schedules, bills of material, and mechanical assembly drawings.
- Perform continuity, point-to-point, insulation-resistance, grounding, and functional testing; identify and correct deficiencies using appropriate electrical hand and test equipment.
- Troubleshoot electrical and control-system issues during assembly, power-up, Factory Acceptance Testing, installation, commissioning, service, and maintenance.
- Disassemble completed systems, identify and protect cables and components, and prepare electrical equipment for packing and shipment.
- Travel to customer sites to reinstall and terminate equipment and support local contractors, customer tradespeople, Site Acceptance Testing, commissioning, service, and maintenance.
- Maintain accurate installation, inspection, repair, and test records; document deficiencies, provide red-line markups, and interact with ERP and Microsoft Office systems as required.
- Work closely with Production, Engineering, managers, installers, and other technical specialists to support project completion and provide practical feedback that improves manufacturability, lead time, functionality, and installation efficiency.
- Follow company safety procedures, applicable electrical requirements, quality-control practices, and workmanship standards, and assist with other related production activities as assigned.
What You'll Bring:
- Certificate or diploma in Electrical or Electronics Engineering Technology, Industrial Automation, Instrumentation and Controls, Electro-Mechanical Technology, or an equivalent combination of technical training and hands-on experience.
- Practical experience with industrial machine wiring, OEM equipment, control panels, cable and harness fabrication, automation equipment, or similar electrical assembly work.
- Strong ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, terminal plans, mechanical assembly drawings, and bills of material.
- Experience using crimping and stripping tools, soldering equipment, drills, taps, torque tools, multimeters, insulation testers, and other electrical hand, shop, and test equipment.
- Working knowledge of industrial control devices, sensors, solenoids, motors, pumps, relays, contactors, power supplies, PLC input/output, and interlock circuits.
- Strong attention to detail and a consistent approach to cable identification, termination quality, testing, documentation, and safe work practices.
- Ability to organize priorities, solve technical problems, work independently with limited supervision, and contribute effectively within a multidisciplinary production and engineering team.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Experience with medical or nuclear equipment, aerospace systems, vacuum systems, particle accelerators, or other complex industrial equipment is an asset.
Work Environment:
- This is an in-person, hands-on production position based at ACSI's current facility in Richmond, B.C. ACSI is planning to relocate its operations to South Surrey in early 2028.
- Work is performed in production, assembly, testing, and machine-shop areas where required personal protective equipment must be worn.
- Priorities may change to support production schedules, Factory Acceptance Testing, shipments, and customer-site requirements.
- International travel to customer sites is required. The successful candidate must hold a valid passport and be able to travel abroad for installation, commissioning, service, and maintenance assignments.
