About the Role
TQ Construction is seeking an experienced Residential Designer to join our award-winning team for a maternity leave contract. This role is ideal for a talented designer who combines strong design expertise with exceptional people skills.
We are looking for someone who is not only passionate about residential design but also excels at building relationships, listening carefully to client needs, and creating a positive experience throughout the design process. The successful candidate will work closely with homeowners, helping them transform ideas into thoughtful, functional, and beautiful spaces while maintaining clear communication and trust every step of the way.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Design Leadership & Project Delivery
- Lead residential renovation and custom home design projects from concept through completion.
- Develop space plans, conceptual designs, finish selections, and material palettes.
- Prepare design drawings, presentations, specifications, and construction documentation.
- Collaborate with project managers, trades, consultants, and suppliers to ensure design intent is executed successfully.
- Support permitting, design coordination, and project administration activities.
Client Experience & Communication
- Build strong, trusting relationships with clients from initial consultation through project completion.
- Conduct client meetings and discovery sessions to understand needs, priorities, lifestyle requirements, and design goals.
- Demonstrate excellent listening skills and translate client feedback into practical design solutions.
- Present design concepts confidently and professionally.
- Provide guidance on finishes, materials, budgets, and design decisions.
- Maintain proactive, clear, and consistent communication throughout the project lifecycle.
- Create a positive client experience that reflects TQ Construction's commitment to exceptional service.
Team Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners.
- Foster positive working relationships with clients, colleagues, consultants, and trades.
- Contribute to a supportive, team-oriented culture.
- Represent TQ Construction professionally and positively at all times.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Diploma or degree in Interior Design, Architectural Technology, Architecture, or a related design field.
- 3 to 5+ years of high-end residential design experience, ideally with local industry experience in BC.
- Architectural design experience is preferred
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit.
- Strong knowledge of BC building codes, permitting processes, residential construction methodologies, and design coordination.
- Proven experience preparing construction documents, tender packages, and managing contract administration tasks.
- Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Outstanding listening skills and a client-focused mindset.
- Ability to build rapport quickly and make clients feel comfortable and heard.
- Highly organized with strong time-management and problem-solving skills.
- Positive, professional, and collaborative attitude.
- Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle.
- Living in Canada and legally entitled to work in Canada
