Compensation
- CAD $140,000 per year
- Equivalent to CAD $67.31 per hour, based on 40 hours per week and 52 weeks per year
- Eligibility for variable sales commissions and performance bonuses of approximately CAD $40,000 per year

Position Summary
The Vice President of Sales will serve as a senior commercial leader of AFS Trans Co. and will be responsible for planning, directing and evaluating the company’s sales and business development function.
The position will lead revenue growth, strategic account development, market expansion and commercial performance for the company’s freight forwarding, transportation, warehousing, distribution, e-commerce fulfilment and cross-border logistics services across Canada and other designated North American markets.
The Vice President of Sales will report to the President and Chief Executive Officer and will work closely with operations, pricing, finance, customer service and other management personnel to develop commercially viable customer solutions and achieve the company’s revenue, margin and growth objectives.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement and periodically revise national and regional sales strategies in alignment with the company’s business plan, revenue objectives, service capabilities and market priorities.
- Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate sales and business development activities for international freight forwarding, domestic transportation, warehousing, distribution, e-commerce fulfilment and Canada–U.S.–Mexico cross-border logistics services.
- Establish annual and quarterly sales objectives, revenue targets, gross-margin goals, customer-acquisition targets, account-retention goals and key performance indicators for the sales function.
- Prepare and oversee sales budgets, revenue forecasts, pipeline reports, account plans and commercial performance reports.
- Present sales results, commercial risks and recommended actions to the President and Chief Executive Officer.
- Identify and evaluate new markets, industry sectors, customer segments, strategic partnerships and service opportunities that support sustainable business growth throughout Canada and designated North American markets.
- Lead the development and maintenance of relationships with major business clients and executive decision-makers, including manufacturers, importers, exporters, retailers, e-commerce businesses and multinational enterprises requiring integrated logistics and supply chain services.
- Direct and participate in major customer negotiations involving requests for proposals, requests for quotations, pricing arrangements, sales and service agreements, warehousing programs, transportation contracts, service-level commitments and long-term strategic partnerships.
- Review customer requirements, projected volumes, operating costs, pricing, margins, credit considerations, implementation requirements and contractual risks before approving or recommending significant commercial proposals within delegated authority.
- Coordinate with operations, pricing, warehouse, transportation, finance, customer service and overseas offices or agents to ensure proposed customer solutions are operationally feasible, accurately costed and commercially sustainable.
- Oversee the commercial onboarding and handover of new strategic accounts to operational teams, ensuring that scope, rates, service requirements, reporting expectations and customer commitments are properly documented and communicated.
- Establish and maintain sales policies, procedures, approval processes, account-ownership standards, customer relationship management practices and reporting requirements for the sales organization.
- Recruit, organize, train, mentor and evaluate sales and business development personnel.
- Assign territories and account responsibilities, monitor employee performance and implement development or corrective plans where required.
- Lead regular sales meetings, strategic account reviews, pipeline and forecast reviews and cross-functional implementation meetings to improve accountability, communication and service execution.
- Monitor market conditions, competitor activity, freight-rate changes, customer trends, regulatory developments and supply-chain risks.
- Use market and commercial information to support pricing, service-development and business-growth decisions.
- Represent the company at customer meetings, industry events, trade conferences, business associations and other commercial forums.
- Act as a senior company representative in strategic sales matters and commercial negotiations.
- Advise the President and Chief Executive Officer on commercial strategy, geographic expansion, service development, resource priorities and other initiatives affecting the company’s sales performance and market position.
- Perform other related senior sales leadership and business development duties as required to support the company’s objectives.
- Travel within Canada and to other North American business locations as required.
Qualifications and Experience
- A university degree in business, commerce or a related field.
- A minimum of eight years of progressively responsible experience in corporate sales, business development, strategic account management or commercial leadership, preferably within logistics, freight forwarding, transportation, warehousing, distribution or supply chain services.
- Experience leading regional or national sales activities, mentoring or directing sales personnel, or managing major strategic customer accounts and complex commercial initiatives.
- A demonstrated record of developing and retaining major business-to-business accounts, leading complex sales cycles and achieving revenue, margin, customer-growth or market-expansion objectives.
- Strong working knowledge of international ocean and air freight, domestic transportation, warehousing and distribution, e-commerce fulfilment and Canada–U.S. cross-border logistics solutions.
- Experience preparing and managing sales forecasts, budgets, account plans, requests for proposals, pricing submissions, customer contracts, service-level agreements and commercial reports.
- Ability to analyze customer requirements, operating capabilities, costs, pricing, margins, contractual risks and market conditions in order to develop viable sales strategies and logistics solutions.
- Strong leadership, negotiation, presentation, decision-making, relationship-management and cross-functional communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English with customers, employees, suppliers, transportation partners and senior management.
- Proficiency with customer relationship management systems, spreadsheets, presentation software and other standard business applications.
