We are always looking for amazing talent who can contribute to our growth and deliver results! The Senior Mobile Developer at Geotab is a seasoned engineer who takes full ownership of the mobile experience — leading technical design, driving reliability, scalability, and quality at every layer, and mentoring others to do the same. If you hold yourself to the highest engineering standards, have a deep sense of ownership, and are ready to be the driving force behind a world-class mobile product — we would love to hear from you!
As a Senior Mobile Software Developer, you are primarily responsible for owning the end-to-end mobile experience — architecting, building, and maintaining efficient, reliable, and scalable mobile applications for iOS and Android. This role involves leading technical design decisions, mentoring developers at all levels, collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders, and contributing meaningfully to the team's roadmap and engineering culture. You will take full ownership of Geotab's mobile platform — from architecture and feature delivery to reliability, performance, and quality — integrating seamlessly with our telematics backend and device ecosystem.
Technical Leadership & Ownership
-
Architect and deliver scalable solutions, prototypes, MVPs, and PoCs — exercising strong technical judgment with limited direction.
Take full end-to-end ownership of complex features and systems, communicating design decisions, progress, risks, and trade-offs to stakeholders.
Lead identification and resolution of improvement areas in existing code and architecture; proactively propose and drive technical improvements across the team.
Must be able to work with high-level requirements, proactively collaborate with stakeholders to drive clarity, and deliver a world-class product across user experience, reliability, stability, and response time. Demonstrates the maturity to recognize when urgency is warranted, identify and prioritize time-critical work, communicate delivery risks early, and make sound trade-off decisions under pressure and steer delivery - without compromising quality.
Write clean, secure, and maintainable mobile software; set and uphold the engineering quality bar for the team through rigorous code review, disciplined testing, and a relentless focus on reliability, scalability, and quality.
Mobile Experience Development & Integration
Build and own the end-to-end mobile experience for Geotab's iOS and/or Android applications — taking full responsibility for reliability, scalability, and quality across the mobile stack.
-
Define and drive mobile architecture patterns, frameworks, and engineering standards that enable the team to ship at speed without compromising stability.
Deliver high-performance, maintainable, and testable mobile features; ensure time-sensitive fleet data, GPS tracking, real-time alerts, and telematics insights render flawlessly on-device.
Optimize apps for battery life, memory efficiency, network usage, and graceful offline behaviour in constrained fleet environments.
Establish and maintain rigorous mobile testing practices — unit, UI, integration, and regression — to safeguard release quality and minimize production incidents. Own mobile CI/CD pipelines and the App Store / Google Play release process end-to-end.
Integrate with Geotab's telematics backend APIs; collaborate with backend, hardware, and firmware teams to ensure data integrity from device to mobile display. Evaluate and adopt emerging mobile platform capabilities and SDK updates; proactively surface technical debt and drive resolution to maintain a healthy, modern codebase.
AI-Augmented Development
Use AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, or equivalent) as a core part of your daily workflow — accelerating delivery, generating tests, drafting documentation, and improving code review quality.
Actively evaluate emerging AI tools and engineering best practices; introduce high-value techniques to the team, champion adoption, and contribute to Geotab's internal AI development standards.
Collaboration & Team Leadership
Collaborate with developers and adjacent teams on technical design and implementation, bringing cross-product context and promoting engineering consistency.
Lead technical discussions and communicate complex concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences; mentor others in doing the same.
Lead team documentation practices — system design docs, ADRs, etc. — maintaining them at scale as a living part of the engineering culture.
Contribute to Geotab global strategic initiatives by taking ownership of complex, cross-cutting technical deliverables.
Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation (if applicable); serve as a senior responder in incident detection, response, and resolution.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, or a related field. At Geotab, most Senior Software Developers have approximately 5-8 years of relevant industry experience to demonstrate consistent mastery across a wide range of problems and scenarios. Years of experience is not a hard requirement - some developers reach these competencies at an accelerated rate.
Soft Skills:
Strong communication skills - able to clearly convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop other engineers.
Self-directed, with the ability to operate independently and navigate ambiguity.
Collaborative mindset with a track record of effective cross-team partnership.
Enthusiasm for exploring and applying AI tools to enhance team productivity, solve hard problems, and accelerate delivery.
Technical Skills (Required):
Proficiency in AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or equivalent platforms, with demonstrated integration of AI tooling into development workflows.
Experience using AI tools to automate test generation, draft documentation, and accelerate code reviews.
Deep expertise in native mobile development — Swift/SwiftUI for iOS and/or Kotlin/Jetpack Compose for Android — or strong experience with cross-platform frameworks (React Native, Flutter) with native bridging capabilities. Proven track record of shipping high-quality, production-grade mobile applications at scale, with full ownership over reliability, performance, and quality. Strong understanding of mobile architecture patterns (MVVM, Clean Architecture, MVI) and the ability to apply them pragmatically. Experience with mobile CI/CD pipelines (Fastlane, Bitrise, GitHub Actions) and end-to-end management of App Store and Google Play release processes. Proficiency in mobile testing frameworks and strategies (XCTest, Espresso, Detox, or equivalent) with a strong bias toward test coverage as a quality gate. Solid understanding of mobile performance optimization — memory management, battery usage, network efficiency, and offline-first design patterns.
Experience improving software architecture for scalability, testability, and maintainability.
Nice to Have:
Background in fleet telematics or connected vehicle platforms.
Experience integrating mobile apps with real-time data streams, WebSockets, or MQTT. Familiarity with mobile security best practices (data encryption, certificate pinning, secure storage). Experience with embedded or IoT device communication from mobile (BLE, CAN bus, device pairing).
If you got this far, we hope you're feeling excited about this role! Even if you don't feel you meet every single requirement, we still encourage you to apply.
