Position Summary
Stormtec is seeking a Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician (Off-Road Diesel Mechanic) to support the maintenance, repair, and reliability of our fleet and specialized water management equipment. This role combines both shop and field service responsibilities, with most of the work performed from our Calgary shop and field support provided as required. A company vehicle will be supplied for field service duties.
The successful candidate will diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair diesel-powered pumps, generators, light towers, fleet vehicles, and specialized dewatering equipment while ensuring equipment remains reliable, safe, and ready for deployment. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys a variety of mechanical work, independent problem-solving, and supporting critical project operations.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs on diesel pumps, generators, light towers, and related equipment.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical issues on diesel engines and pumping equipment.
- Conduct testing, servicing, and troubleshooting to ensure equipment is operating safely and efficiently.
- Assist with emergency repairs and equipment breakdowns in both shop and field settings.
Fleet Maintenance
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on Stormtec's fleet vehicles, including light and medium-duty trucks, with a primary focus on Ford vehicles.
- Complete fluid services, brake repairs, suspension work, electrical diagnostics, and other maintenance activities as required.
- Maintain vehicle service records and report any major repair requirements.
Field Service Support
- Travel to project sites to perform maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs.
- Support equipment mobilization and demobilization activities when required.
- Maintain a professional relationship with internal stakeholders and clients while working in the field.
Documentation & Compliance
- Complete work orders, preventative maintenance reports, inspection forms, and safety documentation accurately and on time.
- Assist in maintaining equipment maintenance records and service schedules.
- Adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas, service trucks, and shop facilities.
Qualifications
Required
- Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician (Red Seal Off-Road) certification.
- Strong experience maintaining and repairing diesel-powered equipment and engines.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence with an acceptable driving record.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting experience with mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
Preferred
- Experience working with pumps, generators, construction equipment, water management equipment, or industrial equipment.
- Welding and fabrication experience.
- Experience with fleet maintenance programs and equipment tracking systems.
- Experience working in construction, mining, environmental, or industrial service industries.
Working Conditions
- Combination of shop and field work.
- Regular travel to project sites throughout BC and Alberta as required.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, and mechanical equipment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Overtime and after-hours support may be required during peak periods or emergency response situations.
