Matrix HR is partnering with an established Client in the construction industry to recruit an experienced Site Superintendent for a full-time opportunity based in Jasper, AB!
Our client is an established General Contractor and Developer specializing in residential, commercial, and civil construction across Alberta and British Columbia. As they continue to grow their presence in Jasper, they are looking for an experienced Site Superintendent to oversee active and upcoming construction projects.
Company-provided housing is available, making this an excellent opportunity for experienced Superintendents based outside of Jasper, including candidates in the Greater Calgary area and surrounding communities, who are open to working on a rotational schedule.
Position Summary
The Site Superintendent will oversee daily field operations for construction projects in Jasper, providing direct leadership to crews, foremen, subcontractors, and suppliers. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating field activities and ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in accordance with drawings, specifications, budgets, and quality standards.
What You'll Do
Site Operations & Leadership: Lead daily site operations, coordinating crews, foremen, subcontractors, equipment, materials, and suppliers. Provide clear direction to field teams and maintain a strong leadership presence on site.
Scheduling & Coordination: Plan and sequence work to meet safety, quality, and schedule targets. Maintain short-interval lookahead schedules, monitor production, and adjust resources and sequencing to minimize delays, trade stacking, and rework.
Construction & Technical Review: Review drawings, specifications, permits, and project requirements. Identify constraints and constructability issues early and work with the Project Manager to develop solutions.
Safety & Quality: Champion site safety by leading toolbox meetings and FLHAs, conducting inspections, enforcing OH&S requirements, and addressing unsafe work. Ensure construction meets drawings, specifications, codes, standards, and quality requirements.
Project Documentation & Cost Control: Manage RFIs, changes, deficiencies, non-conformances, and field documentation. Track labour, equipment, materials, subcontractor activities, and production quantities while identifying potential changes, delays, and cost impacts.
Subcontractor & Stakeholder Coordination: Coordinate subcontractor progress and work closely with owners, consultants, inspectors, municipalities, utilities, suppliers, and internal project teams to maintain effective communication and project progress.
What You Bring
Experience: 10+ years of construction experience with progressive responsibility as a Foreman, General Foreman, or Site Superintendent. Strong residential construction experience is preferred.
General Contracting: Experience working for a General Contractor with the ability to coordinate multiple trades, subcontractors, and work fronts.
Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction methods, sequencing, productivity, and field coordination, with the ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, schedules, permits, and contract documents.
Leadership: Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills with the ability to provide clear direction and proactively resolve site issues.
Project Management: Experience with scheduling, daily reporting, RFIs, changes, quality control, subcontractor coordination, and field documentation.
Requirements: Valid Class 5 driver's licence and the ability to work primarily on active construction sites in Jasper, AB.
Nice to Have (Assets)
Experience with multi-family, residential, wood-frame, or mixed-use construction.
Experience overseeing multiple projects or work fronts simultaneously.
Experience working on remote or rotational construction projects.
The successful candidate will oversee a variety of current and upcoming projects in Jasper, including residential buildings, staff housing, management accommodations, and other commercial and site-support facilities.
Upcoming projects include an Engineering Compound consisting of four buildings a prefabricated steel building, a wood-frame office, a greenhouse, and an outdoor storage garage as well as Leadership Cabins consisting of two wood-frame buildings and a garage.
Location & Work Schedule
This is a primarily field-based position located in Jasper, Alberta. The role operates on a rotational schedule, currently approximately 10 days on / 4 days off. The schedule may vary slightly depending on the successful candidate, while remaining subject to business and project needs.
Early mornings, extended hours, and outdoor work in varying weather conditions may be required.
