Full job description

Leaven to Loaf Bakehouse is a family-owned bakery in Hagersville, Ontario producing naturally leavened bread, bagels, pastries and other handcrafted baked goods.

We are seeking a reliable Assistant Baker with at least 1 year of experience in a bakery, restaurant or commercial kitchen. Candidates with a strong pastry background, culinary training or professional culinary experience will be preferred.

This role supports both bread and pastry production and requires someone who is organized, punctual, efficient and committed to consistent, high-quality work.

Schedule

Tuesday to Saturday, approximately 25–35 hours per week.

Typical start time is 4:00 a.m., with occasional 2-3:00am (Saturdays from April to December). starts during heavier production periods. Shifts generally finish between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Occasional Sunday availability may be required for holidays or special events.

Responsibilities

Prepare and produce scones, cookies, pastries and other sweet items
Scale, mix, shape, bake and finish products according to bakery standards
Operate deck ovens, convection ovens, mixers and bread slicers
Package, label and prepare retail and wholesale orders
Monitor ingredient inventory and maintain organized storage areas
Maintain clean and sanitary workstations, equipment, fridges and freezers
Complete dishwashing, sweeping, mopping and general production cleanup
Assist with other bakery production duties as required

Requirements

Minimum 1 year of professional bakery, restaurant or commercial kitchen experience
Pastry, baking or culinary experience strongly preferred
Strong organization, attention to detail and time-management skills
Ability to work efficiently and independently in a fast-paced production environment
Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks and complete them in a timely manner
Reliable and comfortable working overnight/early-morning hours
Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 22 kg / 50 lb
Valid Food Handler Certification required before starting
