Manager, Human Resources
Reporting to the Director, People & Culture, the Manager, Human Resources has both strategic and tactical responsibility in guiding and managing the provision of Human Resources for Alzheimer Society of Ontario (ASO). This role implements HR processes and systems supporting the employee lifecycle which includes recruiting and staffing, performance management and improvement systems, change management, ensuring legislative compliance, payroll, employee onboarding, development and training, policy development and documentation, HRIS, employee relations, compensation, benefits and pension administration, along with employee safety, health and wellness.
What You’ll Be Doing
Recruitment, Selection and Onboarding
- Responsible for facilitating a formal and structured recruitment process to manage staffing needs
- Partner with hiring managers to confirm position requirements, obtain required approvals and propose strategies for advertising, interviewing and selection
- Conduct initial screening, schedule and participate in interviews, conduct reference checks and appropriate background screening
- Develop relationships with external agencies and recruiters to facilitate these recruitment services as needed
- Work with hiring managers to ensure job descriptions are created and revised when needed to adhere to the established compensation structure
- Facilitate drafting and receiving final approval of the employment agreement for the successful candidate
- Manage the on-boarding process and new hire orientation for new employees, facilitate needs assessment with management to determine any training needs
Compensation, Benefits, Pension, Payroll and HRIS
- Maintain established compensation structure and plans including conducting job evaluation for new and revised roles ensuring alignment within the structure
- Support benefits and pension administration with third-party providers for benefits and pension plans
- Provide HR support for semi-monthly payroll cycle for participating societies
- Responsible for reporting on HR metrics
- Maintain and update HRIS platform
Employee Relations
- Provide guidance and support to managers and employees on employee relations matters, including workplace conflict, performance management, attendance, conduct and policy interpretation
- Lead the annual performance management process and provide reporting from HRIS
- Ensure all processes, policies and procedures are up-to-date and legally compliant
- Coordinate and support the ASO health and safety program in terms of policies, training and legislative guidance
- Serve as the organization’s designated Fire Warden, and support workplace emergency preparedness and evacuation procedures
- Provide guidance and support for local societies through HRASiO on employee relations matters upon request
Who You Are:
- Post secondary degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or related field from an accredited college or university
- An equivalent combination of training, education and experience will also be considered
- A minimum of five (5) years’ progressive experience in human resources within a generalist capacity, with a proven ability to advise leaders and navigate complex employee relations issues.
- At least two years’ experience in a leadership or supervisory role
- CHRP or CHRL designation preferred (or working toward designation)
- Proven experience implementing new systems and processes
- Experience in a not-for-profit environment is an asset
- Experience operating within a shared services and/or federated organizational model is considered an asset

- Demonstrated ability to work both within a team environment and independently
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with strong interpersonal skills
- Strong presentation, analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to analyze, problem solve, prioritize, make timely decisions, and take initiative
- Have a sense of urgency when dealing with clients
- Exemplary computer skills that include knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite of products.
- Knowledge of best practice theories and practices of Human Resources Management and employment law

Hiring Zone: $90,000 - $105,000
