Job Title: Millwright / Welder
Job Description
This role combines millwright and welding work on heavy construction and industrial projects across Ontario, including pipelines, chemical plants, water and wastewater treatment facilities, manufacturing, food processing, and automotive plants. You will work on installation, maintenance, repair, and modification of a wide range of mechanical equipment while advancing your welding skills, with a strong preference for candidates who are working toward or already hold an SMAW all-position ticket.
Responsibilities

Work on both industrial and construction projects, including water and wastewater treatment plants, pipelines, chemical plants, and manufacturing facilities across Ontario.

Perform start-up and testing of mechanical systems and equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.

Carry out shutdown operations, including disassembly, inspection, repair, and reassembly of equipment.

Renovate, restore, and upgrade existing mechanical systems and components to improve performance and reliability.

Perform rigging and material handling activities to safely move, position, and install heavy equipment and components.

Troubleshoot machinery and mechanical systems to diagnose issues and determine effective repair solutions.

Install, maintain, and repair tool grinders, press brakes, and other metalworking equipment.

Service and repair pumps, compressors, and related rotating equipment.

Maintain and repair welding equipment and associated tools.

Work on heat exchangers and related process equipment, including inspection, repair, and replacement of components.

Operate and maintain lathes and other machining tools as required for repairs and fabrication.

Interpret and work from plans and blueprints, ensuring accurate layout, fabrication, and installation.

Perform SMAW (stick) welding in all positions to fabricate, assemble, and repair components and structures.

Use hand and power tools safely and effectively for construction, maintenance, and repair tasks.

Follow all safety procedures, including working at heights, and use appropriate personal protective equipment.

Collaborate with other trades and contractors on-site to coordinate work and meet project schedules.

Travel regularly to various project sites across Ontario and adapt to changing work locations and conditions.
Essential Skills
-
Experience as a construction or industrial millwright, or as a mechanically inclined welder with comparable experience.

Proven ability to read and interpret plans and blueprints accurately.

Valid Working at Heights certificate.

SMAW (stick welding) all-positions ticket or equivalent demonstrated all-position stick welding proficiency.

Experience with maintenance, construction, or similar mechanical work environments.

Hands-on experience with welding in all positions, particularly in industrial or construction settings.

Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively in construction and maintenance work.

Experience working on mechanical equipment such as pumps, compressors, metalworking machinery, and related systems.

Comfort working in water and wastewater, industrial, and construction environments.

Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical systems and machinery.

Ability to perform rigging and material handling tasks safely.

Capability to work safely at heights and in noisy, dusty, and cold environments.

Willingness and ability to travel extensively and work away from home for periods of time.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience working in water or wastewater treatment plants.

Experience with alignment tools for rotating equipment and machinery.

Experience operating or working with scissor lifts.

Training or experience related to confined space work.

Experience that includes both construction millwright and industrial millwright experience.

Progress toward or possession of an SMAW ticket, with a desire to further develop welding skills.

Exposure to a variety of industrial environments such as manufacturing, food processing, and automotive plants.

Work Environment
This is a travel-intensive role with frequent assignments at various project sites across Ontario, including locations such as Windsor, Wiarton, Kitchener-Waterloo, the west GTA, Burlington, Collingwood, and Sarnia. You work primarily on active construction and industrial sites that can be noisy, dusty, cold, and physically demanding. Tasks often involve working at heights, around heavy equipment, and in environments such as water and wastewater treatment facilities and industrial plants. You will use a range of tools and equipment, including welding machines, tool grinders, press brakes, pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, lathes, and other machining tools, as well as standard hand and power tools. The role requires consistent use of appropriate personal protective equipment and adherence to safety procedures, with an expectation that you remain flexible and comfortable working in changing and sometimes uncomfortable conditions while away from home for periods of time.
