Under the direction of the SSS Behaviour and Inclusion Consultant and the Itinerant Teacher for Autism, this Educational Assistant position will provide additional support in coaching, modelling, and program implementation to educational assistants supporting students with identified support needs, both individually and in groups, across various schools. This position will receive training from relevant consultants to effectively mentor other EAs supporting Yukon students. Particular focus will be on supporting professional personnel’s participation in the development, implementation and continuation of students’ learning plans. This assignment may involve supporting, modelling, coaching, and training school personnel in the use of a range of low-tech (e.g., communication boards) to high-tech (e.g., speech-generating devices such as Proloquo2Go, TouchChat) augmentative and alternative communication.

Position: Educational Assistant, Behaviour and Inclusion Supports

FTE: 1.0 FTE

Start Date: August 20, 2026

End Date: June 11, 2027

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

Grade 12 graduation or equivalent;
Experience working with youth, with working knowledge of child development.
Minimum of 5 years of experience working as an educational assistant in the school system, with at least two years working with students with diversity in the relevant age range or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Recent experience as a therapy assistant or education assistant supporting the implementation of intervention programs would be an asset.
A diploma and/or recent coursework in autism and/or early childhood development would also be an asset.
Certification as a Board-Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA), Registered Behaviour Technician, Behaviour Interventionist or post-secondary coursework in applied behaviour analysis or the neurosequential model of education would be an asset.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:

The ideal candidate will possess these qualifications, skills, and knowledge, but also demonstrate suitability for the role and organizational culture:

Ability to work effectively with students, teachers and parents;
Adaptability to cope with a wide variety of situations;
Ability to work as a member of a team;
Good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills;
Flexibility to undertake a variety of assignments;
Ability to work with minimal supervision;
Ability to effectively plan, manage time, and efficiently work towards specific learning outcomes for students.
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of students and school staff.
Considerable knowledge of communication techniques such as visual scheduling, active listening and other forms of augmentative and adaptive communication for students with diversity.
Considerable knowledge of methods and procedures in controlling and regulating student’s behaviours using non-violent crisis intervention techniques.
Good oral and written English communication (French speaking would be an asset)

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Education Assistant Certificate or equivalent.
Security Clearance (Vulnerable Sector Check) prior to starting work;
Standard First Aid Certificate or a willingness to complete within 3 months;
Completion of the Educational Assistant Module by the end of the school year
Completion of Provincial Outreach Program for Autism and/or Behavioural principles course by the end of the school year 2026-2027.
