About Island Gold District: Alamos Gold’s Island Gold District will become one of the largest and lowest-cost gold mines in Canada. Role Overview:
Reporting to the Lead Core Technician, the purpose of this position to assist with the day-to-day activities related to core processing for production and exploration programs. This role ensures that core handling, sampling, and associated tasks are conducted efficiently and safely, supporting the overall goals of the geology department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Core Handling & Processing:
- Receiving, handling, and organizing drill core samples (BQ, NQ, HQ).
- Ensuring core is properly labeled, stored, and transported.
- Identifying potential errors in block and core box labeling.
- Core Logging Support:
- Processing of diamond drill core in a timely and accurate manner
- Preparing core samples for geological logging.
- Assisting geologists by marking meter intervals and orientation lines.
- Recording Rock Quality Designation (RQD) and other geological measurements.
- Core Cutting & Sampling:
- Cutting/breaking drill core using saws/hammer/other tools for geochemical analysis.
- Preparing samples for lab submission, ensuring accuracy in labeling and handling.
- Dispatching samples to labs and tracking pulp returns.
- Equipment & Facility Maintenance:
- Keeping the core shack, core farm, and geology storage areas clean and organized.
- Ensuring core processing equipment is maintained and in good working condition.
- Other Tasks:
- Data entry and basic administrative tasks.
- Following all safety protocols related to core handling and equipment use.
- Participating in safety meetings and inspections.
- Identifying and reporting potential hazards in the workplace. Actively participating in regular safety inspections and safety meetings.
- Maintaining health, safety, statutory, regulatory, and licensing standards, and principles, both within own workplace and through the identification of potential risks throughout AGI.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Grade 12 education; an interest in natural sciences or mining is an asset.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
- Ability to work well in a team environment and independently when required.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and basic data entry.
- Capable of lifting and moving objects weighing 40-50 lbs for set periods of time.
- Valid Class G driver’s license (or equivalent) with a clean driving record.
- Preferred 1-3 years of experience in an industrial setting, ideally in a remote site environment.
Working Conditions:
- 7x7, 12 hours
- Office and Field work environment.
- Remote Camp
Physical requirements:
- Has the ability to lift 40-50 lb.
- Periodic travel in the field.
The schedule for this position is based in a camp operation working on an 7/7 rotation schedule with flights provided from Sudbury Toronto and Rouyn-Noranda. Pay or shift range: $54,250 CAD to $97,650 CAD
