Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person work at North Campus Edmonton.
The Resident Support Lead will work with the Director of Postgraduate Medical Education (the Program Director) to oversee residents who are experiencing difficulties during their training program. As a leader in the program, the Resident Support Lead will contribute to the overall program, including curriculum development, assessment, faculty development, etc.

MAJOR PORTFOLIO
Lead and work with the Resident Support team in the following:

Assist any resident who encounters difficulty during his/her/their Family Medicine residency training:
-
Identify learners in difficulty including academic, professionalism or health related issues:
-
Receive and screen low performance evaluations;
-
Receive and follow up on communications from learners, preceptors or others who may have concerns about resident performance or wellness;
-
Work proactively to identify and formulate strategies to promote wellness and balance in residency training;
-
Assist Site Directors, Faculty Advisors and preceptors with specific minor or major learning plans;
-
Assist learners with accommodations, leaves of absence or other factors that affect wellness and performance;
-
Assist in planning and delivery of remedial programs;
-
Assist in planning and delivery of wellness programs;
-
Advise Residency Operations Committee on decisions regarding learning plans, accommodations or leaves of absence
-
Participate in Competence Committee (or equivalent) as described in committee terms of reference
Inform Residency Program Committee of activities associated with residency learning plans and wellness. -
Engage with and work collaboratively with PGME, OAW office, Academic Success Centre, CPSA and other partners.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist in the implementation of national guidelines and accreditation standards as they relate to the Family Medicine program.
-
Participate in meetings that have importance and impact on the Family Medicine program, including but not limited to, Residency Program Committee meetings, Resident Operations Committee, Resident Selection Committee, Resident Competence Committee (or equivalent), and other meetings as needed.

Assist with the selection of candidates for the Family Medicine program during the CaRMS process, including IMG selection.

Assist in recognizing achievements among residents of the program, such as nominations for awards.

Attend meetings that the Program Director cannot attend.

Assist in preparations for surveys of the program:

Accreditation by the College of Family Physicians
-
Internal review by the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry
-
Mock accreditation and surveys as happen from time to time

Communication with Residents and Faculty, and other duties:
-
Promote the Family Medicine residency program;
-
Promote collaboration and faculty support between preceptors and the Department of Family Medicine;
-
Provide advice and counsel to the Program Director concerning all aspects that impact on the program;
-
Other duties as requested by the Program Director of the Family Medicine Residency Program.
APPOINTMENT and REPORTING
-
Appointed by the Chair, Department of Family Medicine.

Reports to the Director of the Postgraduate Medical Education Program in the Department of Family Medicine.

Administrative support will be provided by the Program.

The appointment is three year, renewable at the discretion of the Chair of the Department of Family Medicine, with input from the Program Director for a maximum term of six years. Annual reviews will be conducted to ensure all parties are satisfied that the appropriate duties and responsibilities are being met.
Education and Professional Credentials
-
MD degree and eligibility for licensure in Alberta.
-
Certification in Family Medicine through the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP).
-
Academic appointment within the Department of Family Medicine at the Assistant Clinical Professor level or higher (or eligible for appointment).
Residency Education Experience
-
Experience teaching and assessing Family Medicine residents.
-
Demonstrated involvement in postgraduate medical education, including resident assessment and feedback processes.
Learner Support and Remediation Experience
-
Demonstrated experience supporting learners experiencing academic, professionalism, health, or wellness-related challenges.
-
Experience developing, implementing, or overseeing learner improvement plans, accommodations, remediation plans, or return-to-training processes.
-
Knowledge of competency-based medical education principles and resident assessment frameworks.

Remuneration for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and based on the income scale of the six-step Academic Medicine and Health Services Program (AMHSP).
The successful candidate will be offered a contingent tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, which is in accordance with Schedule A of the Collective Agreement between the Board of Governors of the University of Alberta and the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta.
