About BlueFlare
BlueFlare is a vertically integrated oilfield service, power generation, and datacenter developer/operator. We take stranded and flared natural gas at the wellhead and turn it into useful work — generating power on site, running it as dispatchable load for Bitcoin mining, and building out the next generation of liquid-cooled AI and HPC inference datacenters.
We design, build, and operate our own infrastructure end to end, across a growing fleet of remote sites in Alberta. We're a small, technical team that values open standards, config-as-code, user-repairable systems, and getting to the root cause instead of patching symptoms. The scope is unusually broad for a company our size, which means real ownership and the chance to work across networking, industrial control systems, power generation, and AI infrastructure rather than a narrow slice of one of them.
The Role
The Junior Network Operations Technician keeps our distributed network fleet running. This is a primarily office- and NOC-based role where you'll monitor sites remotely, handle first-line troubleshooting, apply routine changes, and stage equipment before it ships to the field. You'll work closely with — and learn directly from — our Senior Network Operations Field Technician, with the path to growing into autonomous field work and broader systems ownership over time.
What You'll Do
- Monitor the health of the site network fleet — routers, switches, PoE, cameras, LTE failover — and the central remote-access hub, triaging issues and escalating anything beyond routine.
- Provide first-line remote troubleshooting and support across all sites from the office.
- Apply routine network changes — device provisioning, VLAN and DHCP assignments, firewall rule updates — following established standards and under senior guidance.
- Maintain the centralized camera/NVR and log-aggregation systems: confirm recordings, manage retention, and investigate alerts.
- Run automated monitoring of the mining fleet and respond to configuration anomalies.
- Keep network documentation, IP assignments, and device inventory accurate and current.
- Stage and pre-configure equipment in the office before field deployment.
- Travel occasionally to sites to assist with commissioning and hands-on work alongside the senior technician.
Requirements
- Automation and networking experience. You've built or maintained networks and you reach for automation instinctively rather than doing repetitive work by hand.
- CompTIA Network+. Required. Exceptions will be made for outstanding candidates who can complete the certification on the job within an agreed timeframe.
- Deep command-line proficiency, including hands-on fluency with agentic AI CLI tools such as Claude Code, Codex, pi, opencode, Gemini CLI, or similar. You're comfortable living in a terminal and using AI tooling as a capable collaborator you direct and verify.
- Working understanding of both Linux and Windows systems — administration, troubleshooting, and the differences that matter day to day.
Considered a Huge Plus
- A SAIT credential in a relevant field — Network Systems Specialist, Information Technology, Instrumentation Engineering Technology, Cyber Security for Control Systems, Electronics or Electrical Engineering Technology, or Software Development.
- MikroTik / RouterOS experience (MTCNA or equivalent), and familiarity with WireGuard, VLAN segmentation, and firewall design.
- Exposure to SCADA / industrial control systems, Starlink and LTE connectivity in remote environments, or Bitcoin mining / datacenter infrastructure.
- Scripting and config-as-code habits (Git, Ansible, or similar).
Why Join
You'll get exposure most network roles never offer — not just IT infrastructure, but the industrial control, power generation, and AI datacenter systems it connects to. We invest in the people who invest in the work: support for certifications, room to grow into senior and field-leadership roles, and a team that builds things properly and gives you real ownership early.
