Gentech Field Services is seeking a motivated 2nd or 3rd Year Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentice to join our growing Calgary-based field service team.

Position Overview
As a Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentice, you will work alongside experienced Journeyman Technicians to learn the maintenance, diagnostics, repair, and commissioning of commercial and industrial power generation equipment.
You will gain hands-on experience with diesel engines, generator systems, electrical controls, emergency standby power systems, and related equipment while progressing through your apprenticeship.

Key Responsibilities
Under the guidance of Journeyman Technicians, you will:
- Assist with diagnosing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing diesel and natural gas generator systems.
- Perform preventative maintenance in accordance with CSA C282 standards and manufacturer recommendations.
- Assist with inspections, repairs, component replacements, and engine overhauls.
- Learn generator commissioning, load bank testing, and system verification procedures.
- Assist with troubleshooting electrical, fuel, cooling, exhaust, and control systems.
- Read and interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Complete service reports and maintenance records accurately.
- Assist with emergency service calls and after-hours support when required.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment.
- Participate in technical, safety, and manufacturer training programs.
- Support Journeyman Technicians on field service assignments throughout Alberta.
Required Qualifications
- Registered 2nd or 3rd Year Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentice.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and desire to learn.
- Basic understanding of diesel engines and equipment systems.
- Positive attitude and willingness to take direction.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence with a clean driver's abstract.
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Own basic hand tools appropriate for apprenticeship level.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates with any of the following will receive strong consideration:
- Experience working with diesel engines, generators, construction equipment, or heavy-duty equipment.
- Previous field service experience.
- Electrical troubleshooting experience.
- Experience working around power generation equipment.
- Knowledge of CSA C282 requirements.
- Experience using diagnostic software or electronic service tools.
- Safety certifications such as CSTS, H2S Alive, First Aid, or Fall Protection.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and move equipment and components safely.
- Ability to work in mechanical rooms, construction sites, rooftops, and industrial environments.
- Ability to kneel, crouch, climb, and work in confined spaces when required.
- Ability to travel throughout Alberta as required.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
