Engagement Overview
Insight Global, in partnership with a technology company, is deploying a large-scale GPU data center in Mackenzie, BC supporting the IREN Mackenzie B300 build-out. The engagement covers 644 racks and approximately 50,000 servers across air-cooled GPU infrastructure with NVIDIA SN5610 leaf/spine switching and XE9780 GPU servers. This is a fixed-fee, outcome-based engagement with a 50-person team operating across two shifts, 6 to 7 days per week. The Technical Lead is the senior-most field role on the Insight Global delivery team, owning full on-site execution authority for their shift from mobilization through structured handover to operations.
Position Summary
The Technical Lead / Logistics is the single on-site execution authority for Insight Global on each shift, leading a 25-person team of Network Technicians, DC Deployment Techs, Cooling Technicians, and QA/QC Specialists across all active pods. This is a working leadership role. Technical Leads are hands-on contributors to installation activity alongside their teams, setting the pace and quality bar by example while simultaneously owning team performance, floor-wide safety compliance, daily logistics, and client requirements. The Technical Lead is the primary daily interface with technical PM and is accountable for ensuring Insight Global meets its delivery obligations on time and to site standards. The role requires a rare combination of deep hands-on cabling expertise and the ability to lead, coach, and hold accountable a large field team in a remote, high-pressure environment.
Key Responsibilities
TEAM LEADERSHIP & SHIFT MANAGEMENT
- Lead and coordinate a 25-person shift team across all pods and floating roles; assign daily work tasks, manage pod coverage, and ensure continuity of execution
- Work hands-on alongside the team throughout the shift; the Technical Lead is an active installer and contributor to daily rack and cable completion targets alongside the team, not a passive supervisor
- Conduct shift kickoff briefings covering daily targets, active pod assignments, safety observations, and any scope or design updates
- Manage shift handoffs with the opposing Technical Lead, providing a full briefing on installation progress, open items, QA findings, and any active escalations
- Coach and mentor Network Technicians and L1 Technicians; identify skill gaps and adjust pod assignments to maintain delivery pace and quality
- Hold all team members accountable to installation standards, documentation requirements, and site safety protocols throughout the engagement
- Conduct on-site orientation for newly mobilized technicians covering site layout, safety protocols, cooling infrastructure boundaries, and documentation standards
TECHNICAL EXECUTION & QUALITY OVERSIGHT
- Serve as the technical authority on-site for all cabling questions, scope interpretation, and installation method decisions on the shift
- Perform hands-on fiber cabling installation across EW GPU fabric (MPO-12/APC SMF), NS management fabric (MPO-12 to 2xMPO-4 fan-out SMF), and storage backend as an active working contributor alongside the pod teams
- Oversee and spot-check cabling installations across all pods; enforce proper cable routing, dressing, labeling, securing, and bend radius discipline
- Conduct regular quality checks in coordination with QA/QC Technicians; identify deficiencies and drive rework to closure before handover
- Lead joint connectivity validation activities per fabric in coordination with technical PM; own the structured handover process for completed fabric zones
SAFETY & CLIENT SITE REQUIREMENTS
- Own full compliance with all client site requirements on the shift: access protocols, work area standards, documentation requirements, and any site-specific procedural directives communicated by technical PM
- Maintain shift-wide situational awareness of racks equipped with RDHx and DLC components; support DC Tech / Cooling in enforcing safe working boundaries across all pods
- Own site safety compliance for the shift: enforce PPE requirements, ESD protocols, energized equipment safety, and liquid cooling leak awareness across all 25 team members
- Serve as the first point of escalation for any safety concern, cooling infrastructure incident, client site requirement violation, or near-miss event; report immediately to the IGC Program Manager and technical PM
- Ensure the team delivers to quality and acceptance standards throughout the engagement; this is a fixed-fee, outcome-based contract and the Technical Lead is accountable for the result
STAKEHOLDER COORDINATION & SCOPE MANAGEMENT
- Serve as the primary daily interface between Insight Global field operations and technical PM for the shift; communicate progress, escalations, and site readiness issues clearly and promptly
- Participate in BOM review and scope lock activities at engagement kickoff; flag design discrepancies or gaps before installation begins
- Track daily installation progress against the delivery schedule; proactively identify risks to the 8-week fixed-fee timeline and escalate to the IGC Program Manager
- Coordinate logistics for pod assignments, equipment staging, and material flow within the shift
DOCUMENTATION & REPORTING
- Own the accuracy of all on-site documentation for the shift including cable maps, as-builts, label verification records, and completed connection logs
- Provide end-of-shift status reporting to the IGC Program Manager covering installation progress, quality findings, safety observations, and any scope or schedule risk
- Ensure the QA/QC team updates cable maps and as-builts in real time and that documentation packages are ready for joint validation
Required Qualifications
- 5 to 8 years of hands-on experience in structured cabling, fiber optic installation, or data center deployment, with at least 2 years in a lead, supervisor, or senior technical role
- Deep proficiency with single-mode fiber optic cabling including MPO/MTP connectors, fan-out assemblies, and proper routing and dressing in a production data center
- Demonstrated ability to lead and hold accountable a large field team (20 or more) in a fast-paced, high-volume deployment environment
- Experience reading and executing from rack elevation diagrams, port maps, cabling matrices, and low-level design documentation
- Working knowledge of RDHx and direct liquid cooling infrastructure at the rack level; experience enforcing safe working boundaries across a large team
- Strong understanding of ESD protocols, energized equipment safety, and liquid cooling leak awareness in a production data center setting
- Experience with joint validation, QA processes, and structured handover to a client operations team
- Effective communicator with the ability to interface professionally with client technical stakeholders and internal IG leadership
- Valid passport; ability to travel to and remain on-site in Mackenzie, BC for the full engagement duration
