Who You are
Purpose Unlimited is building the future of financial services – and we need the recruiter who will build the team that builds it. As our first Toronto-based Senior Technical Recruiter, you own the hiring engine for our technology and AI squads: identifying exceptional technical talent across every discipline, closing candidates who have options, and shaping the recruiting infrastructure that scales with us.
You will partner daily with our CTO and senior technology leaders to translate ambitious product and AI roadmaps into talent pipelines. Your remit spans the full technical org – software engineers, data engineers, data scientists, digital engineers, tech leads, and emerging talent through our internship program. This is a full-lifecycle, high-ownership role at the intersection of a fast-moving startup and a category-defining mission. AI handles the sourcing volume and research. You bring the judgment, the relationships, and the close.
What AI does so you don’t have to
- Boolean sourcing and profile aggregation at scale
- First-pass resume screening against defined criteria
- Candidate research briefs and role prep summaries
- Interview scheduling coordination
- Market compensation benchmarking pulls
- Outreach sequence drafting for high-volume roles
What only you can do
- Read the room – candidate motivations, hesitations, and fit signals
- Build trust with passive candidates who have no reason to move
- Calibrate hiring bars with engineers who know what great looks like
- Negotiate, where emotion, logic, and timing all matter
- Make judgment calls when data is ambiguous and urgency is real
What you’ll own
- Build and own the full technical talent pipeline
- Source and close top-tier candidates across software engineering, data engineering, data science, digital engineering, and tech lead roles
- Manage the full spectrum from high-volume hiring to niche senior searches – and own our internship program end-to-end
- Serve as a strategic partner to the CTO and technology leadership
- Define ideal candidate profiles, go-to-market recruiting strategies, and hiring bar calibration across every technical discipline
- Bring market intelligence and competitive data that shape hiring decisions
- Own the candidate experience from first outreach to offer accepted
- Guide candidates through our process with transparency and genuine care for fit, regardless of seniority level
- Lead compensation and equity conversations with confidence and precision
- Design and continuously improve the recruiting infrastructure
- Deploy AI recruiting tools to scale sourcing, research, and pipeline management
- Track, analyze, and act on recruiting metrics – conversion rates, time-to-fill, quality of hire
- Drive cross-functional alignment across Technology, Operations, Marketing, and P&C to land hires that stick.
What you must bring
- 6+ years of full-lifecycle technical recruiting, with direct ownership of searches across multiple technical disciplines
- A demonstrated track record closing passive senior candidates in competitive markets
- Fluency with AI recruiting tools – you know how to configure, direct, and improve them, not just use them
- Exceptional stakeholder communication; you earn trust quickly with technical leaders and hiring managers across disciplines
What will set you apart:
- Experience scaling technical recruiting across multiple disciplines – software, data, and digital – in a high-growth startup or fintech environment
- Background recruiting for internship and early-career programs alongside senior and specialist hires
- Proven ability to build recruiting processes that outlast the person who built them
- Experience with startup equity negotiation and total compensation storytelling
- Comfort holding a diverse requisition mix – volume, niche, senior, and emerging talent – without dropping quality on any of them
What success looks like in your first year:
- Technical hiring velocity reaches target time-to-fill with offer acceptance rate above 85%
- A scalable, documented recruiting infrastructure is in place – process, tooling, and sourcing playbooks built for the team you are building alongside
- CTO and engineering hiring managers cite you as a genuine talent advisor, not just a coordinator
- AI recruiting tooling is embedded into every sourcing workflow, with measurable efficiency gains documented
- Purpose's employer brand within Canada’s engineering community is meaningfully stronger than when you arrived
This role is an expression of our Owner's Mindset value: the belief that every person at Purpose takes responsibility for outcomes, not just activities. Every hire you make shapes the product, the culture, and the trajectory of a company that is genuinely trying to change how financial services works.
Every role at Purpose is assessed against our five values:
- Innovation — You bring new ideas, challenge the status quo, and find better ways of building. You don't wait for permission to experiment.
- Courage — You speak up when something isn't working, take difficult stands on technical quality, and act with conviction even when it's uncomfortable.
- Owner's Mindset — You take full accountability for your squad's outcomes. You treat the platform, the team, and the business as your own.
- Client Focus — You place client outcomes at the center of every architectural and delivery decision.
- Winning Through Individual and Collective Growth — You invest in your own development and actively contribute to the growth of every engineer around you.
