Lead Planner

SUMMARY
Reporting into the Planning Manager, the Lead Planner is responsible for supporting and driving the accurate estimating, scheduling, and tracking of various project contracts. This role plays a critical part in the Operations function and works closely with project teams, crews, and external subcontractors. You will be responsible for providing scheduling expertise, ensuring project milestones are realistic, and managing critical path logic to keep multi-year projects on track.
PRIMARY SCOPE OF ROLE
Project Scheduling & Milestone Management
Develop and maintain resource-loaded project schedules for multi-year transit projects in Primavera P6 from proposals, contract documents, and estimates.
Plan and establish key project milestones while continuously reviewing work activities to ensure long-term milestone support.
Analyze and monitor the total project critical path, schedule performance, and work logic to ensure overall adequacy and constructability.
Maintain and update schedule forecasts throughout the project life cycle, ensuring outside party schedules are properly linked to master schedules.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Progress Reporting
Partner with cross-functional project teams to align project baseline schedules with baseline budgets for all direct and indirect activities.
Communicate timely, informed, and up-to-date schedule information, trends, and forecasts to project leadership.
Provide clear progress, schedule, and planning inputs to support weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly project reports.
Collaborate with Project Managers to conduct schedule analysis and studies on problem areas to resolve critical constraints.
Process Alignment & Efficiency Optimization
Identify schedule considerations, resource constraints, and potential bottlenecks resulting from interdisciplinary or group restraints.
Perform and support resource loading and leveling to maximize crew efficiency and stabilize project workflows.
Review and analyze proposal provisions related to schedules to develop robust supporting data for contract negotiations.
Guide field crews and teams by determining the most appropriate period or season to execute works to optimize delivery.
Risk Mitigation & Subcontractor Oversight
Analyze subcontractors' schedules to forecast and trend completion target dates while reporting deviations accordingly.
Mitigate environmental impacts by factoring seasonal and regulatory constraints into the active execution schedules.
Gather and interpret complex project data from both internal and external sources to identify baseline deviations early.
Recommend corrective actions and track schedule adjustments during all phases of the project lifecycle.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
3-5 years of experience in a dedicated Planner or Scheduler role.
Experience in the construction industry working specifically on Transit projects.
Proven experience with Primavera P6, including resource loading, leveling, and critical path analysis.
Strong knowledge of reading, understanding, and interpreting engineering drawings and contract documents.
Post-secondary education in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred.
Highly developed critical thinking skills with the ability to analyze complex data and visualize schedule logic.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively across diverse teams.
WHAT WE OFFER
Expected Base Salary: $70,000 - $120,000 per year. The actual base salary will depend on several factors including experience, qualifications, internal equity, work location and market expectations.
