A Day in the Life of a Talent Acquisition Specialist
The Talent Acquisition Specialist is responsible for administering the full cycle of recruitment, to provide expertise to leaders throughout the hiring and workforce planning process and, to ensure the attraction of high-quality candidates to the Standards Council of Canada (SCC). The Talent Acquisition Specialist provides advice to the SCC community as it relates to the recruitment, retention, and education of employees across the organization and supports, talent development and organizational development initiatives. The incumbent will oversee, enhance, and ensure the efficient operation of SCC’s human capital management (HCM), focusing on recruitment and onboarding modules.

Education
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or a related field.
Experience and skills
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in various functional areas of Human Resources.
- At least 3 years of direct experience in talent acquisition and recruitment.
- Strong knowledge of HR best practices, employment laws, and recruitment strategies.
- Experience with Human Resource information systems (HRIS).
- Ability to interpret and apply organizational policy combined with knowledge of Canadian employment legislation, including the Official Languages Act, Canada Labour Code, Employment Standards, and the Canadian Human Rights Act.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to maintain data integrity and optimize recruitment workflows.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a confidential, fast paced environment.
You May Also Have
- Certified Human Resources Professional / Leader (CHRP / CHRL) designation.
- Experience supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.
- Familiarity with social media recruiting strategies.
Key Activities
- Manage full-cycle recruitment, selection and onboarding
- Screen, interview, and shortlist candidates; coordinate interview logistics and reference checks.
- Collaborate with leaders to define roles, update job descriptions, and develop staffing plans.
- Coach leaders and employees on HR policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Maintain HR records, personnel files, and confidential documents.
- Track recruitment metrics, analyze trends, and prepare reports.
- Generate reports from the HRIS and analyze data to support decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with employment standards, HR policies, and security requirements.
- Participate in HR projects and process improvements.
- Work closely with management and external agencies

Note 1: Priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents.
Note 2: SCC is responsible for the Personnel Security Clearance process. Typically to be eligible for a "Reliability" clearance, you must have five years of verifiable background information and to be eligible for a "Secret" clearance, you must have 10 years of verifiable background information. The process usually involves reference inquiries, verification of qualifications, criminal records checks, and credit checks (as required) and may require fingerprints.
