It is how we demonstrate accountability, build public trust, and tell the financial story behind the delivery of healthcare services for Albertans. We are looking for an experienced and forward-thinking leader to join our team as Executive Director, Audit & External Financial Reporting. This is a unique opportunity to build and lead a specialized reporting function at a time of significant transformation across Alberta’s health system. You will work closely with executive leaders, government partners, auditors, and financial teams to ensure financial reporting is accurate, transparent, and aligned with our evolving business and regulatory requirements. Description:

The Executive Director, Audit and External Financial Reporting provides strategic leadership and oversight for Acute Care Alberta’s external financial reporting and audit functions, ensuring compliance with legislative, regulatory, and reporting requirements. The position is accountable for establishing and leading a specialized financial reporting team responsible for accurate, timely, and transparent reporting of financial results for ACA, Give Life Alberta, Emergency Health Services, and Cancer Care Alberta. Working collaboratively with ACA leadership, health ministries, other health entities and external auditors, the Executive Director will also oversee the preparation and delivery of additional statutory and regulatory reporting and other external financial disclosures. This role will foster strong relationships to ensure the effective coordination of all audit-related activities. This includes providing expert financial advice to senior leadership on accounting policy, financial reporting risks, emerging issues, and strategic reporting matters. As a key member of the financial leadership team, the Executive Director champions continuous improvement, strengthens governance and financial stewardship practices, and promotes innovation solutions that enhance decision-making, operational effectiveness, and public accountability across ACA and its partner organizations.

Required Qualifications:

Professional accounting designation with significant financial reporting experience. Minimum ten (10) years of progressive accounting, financial reporting, and financial management experience, preferably within a complex healthcare or public sector environment. Comprehensive knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) and demonstrated experience applying accounting standards, policies, and financial reporting requirements. Experience preparing, reviewing, and analyzing financial statements, leading year-end audits, and ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements. Experience providing strategic financial advice and recommendations to senior leadership and executive stakeholders. Demonstrated leadership experience, including project management, team leadership, and mentoring. Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess complex issues and develop practical solutions. Ability to plan, prioritize, and allocate resources effectively to achieve departmental goals and meet competing deadlines Demonstrated commitment to continuing improvement, process automation, and operational efficiency.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in public sector, government, healthcare, education, or a similarly complex environment. Experience with enterprise financial systems, specifically Oracle.
