Job Description
This hybrid Maintenance Technician role supports daily production on the shop floor while taking on maintenance responsibilities for a specialized manufacturing operation. The position was created to succeed a long-tenured maintenance employee and is designed to grow into a full-time maintenance role as your skills and experience develop. Initially, you will spend approximately 80% of your time on shop-floor production support and 20% on maintenance, with a clear progression toward a primarily maintenance-focused position.
Responsibilities

Perform routine and breakdown maintenance on production equipment to minimize downtime and support continuous operations.

Respond promptly to on-call equipment breakdowns while also carrying out regular shop-floor production duties.

Troubleshoot and repair industrial electrical systems, with a primary focus on motors, controls, and related electrical components.

Interpret and work from electrical schematics and blueprints to diagnose and resolve equipment issues.

Carry out mechanical maintenance tasks, including chain replacement, chain breaking, and general machinery repairs.

Use hand tools, power tools, and grinding equipment safely and effectively to complete maintenance and repair tasks.

Perform welding tasks as required for equipment repairs, modifications, and structural support.

Support the safe operation and maintenance of overhead cranes, including two 5-ton cranes with a combined lifting capacity of up to 20,000 lbs.

Collaborate closely with experienced shop personnel and leadership to learn site-specific equipment, processes, and standards.

Follow preventive maintenance routines to extend equipment life and improve reliability.

Work under pressure during equipment breakdown situations, prioritizing safety and effective troubleshooting.

Gradually assume increased maintenance responsibilities, transitioning from a hybrid production/maintenance role to a primarily maintenance-focused position.

Adhere to all safety procedures, use required personal protective equipment, and contribute to a safety-focused work culture.
Essential Skills

Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with production staff, maintenance colleagues, and leadership.

Strong industrial electrical knowledge with a primary focus on motors, controls, and related systems.

Hands-on experience performing preventive maintenance, repairs, and breakdown maintenance on industrial equipment.

Proven experience working with industrial machinery in a manufacturing or similar environment.

Mechanical aptitude, including familiarity with chain systems and general machinery maintenance.

Practical welding knowledge and hands-on welding experience for repairs and modifications.

Ability to troubleshoot equipment effectively under pressure during breakdown situations.

Proficient use of hand tools, power tools, grinders, and related shop equipment.

Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and blueprints.

Willingness and ability to work an afternoon shift from 3:30 PM.

Work Environment
The role is based in a steel distribution and manufacturing environment that relies on heavy industrial equipment and overhead cranes. You will work primarily on the shop floor, supporting production and maintenance activities in an industrial setting. The position follows an afternoon shift schedule starting at 3:30 PM (Days). The company supplies all required personal protective equipment except steel toe boots, which are supported by a boot allowance after one year of employment. You will regularly use hand tools, power tools, grinders, welding equipment, and work around large steel products and overhead lifting equipment in a safety-focused facility.
