Safety and Project Coordinator

The Role:
This is a full-time, on-site role for a newly created position of a Safety and Project Coordinator. With construction projects taking place next to the Centre, the GCA is seeking someone with knowledge of general construction operations and health and safety regulations, along with strong planning, organizational, and time management skills.
The Safety and Project Coordinator supports daily operations by making the safety of clients and staff the highest priority. The role includes being on site to manage vehicle and pedestrian traffic during drop-off and pick-up times, as well as planning and coordinating multiple neighbouring construction projects each day. Working closely with construction partners, GCA supervisors, and the Operations team, the coordinator addresses and ensures all stakeholders are not only aware of any planned or unexpected construction activity that may affect operations, but also, they will help identify and implement measures to reduce negative impacts to the operation.
As the liaison for all parties, the coordinator’s main mandate is to ensure staff and client safety for the duration of the construction project. They recognize that our clients often experience sensory sensitivities that may be heightened as a result of the construction activities and will take every precaution necessary by working closely with GCA staff and the construction team to plan and promptly address any issues or concerns.
What Your Day Looks Like:

During high volume times, set up, maintain, and dismantle temporary traffic control devices (signs, cones) to support client drop off and pick ups.

Be onsite and outside to direct traffic safely through drop off and pick up zone.

Communicate with GCA team when clients arrive and/or when 3rd party drivers (taxi) arrive for pick up.

Comfortable addressing any immediate safety issues with the contractors and ensures documentation and follow up.

Initially, support the Operations team in coordinating and planning daily project activities. Over time, take the lead on day-to-day activities and escalate issues as needed.

Provide daily and weekly logs to the Operations team.

Immediately address and/or identify any safety issues by consulting with the supervisors and operations team.

Review the and ensure the contractors Safety Plans are active and implemented accordingly.

Conduct regular site walks and safety checks.
What You Bring to the Role:

Certificate or diploma in Project Management, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.

Required to enroll and obtain Traffic Control Person (TCP) certification within 6 weeks of employment.

Demonstrated knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Able and comfortable working outside and/or standing for long periods of time in inclement weather.

Proven project coordination experience.

Traffic control experience an asset.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate across all levels of the organization as well as comfortable working with contractors.

Exceptional attention to detail and ability to stay organized while managing multiple priorities

Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, subcontractors, and external partners

Proficiency with MS Teams, Outlook, SharePoint.

Preference will be given to those who are working towards PMP certified.

Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills.

Must be punctual, reliable and safety focused.

Great attitude and willingness to learn and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.

Satisfactory current Vulnerable Sector Check and Criminal Records Check
Salary: $60,000-$70,000 (based on experience)
