Full job description

Senior Accountant

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to join our finance team within a fast-paced collection agency environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for financial reporting, reconciliations, trust accounting, month-end processes, data analysis, dashboard reporting, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policies. This role requires strong financial and technical accounting knowledge, advanced Excel skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-volume environment.

The Senior Accountant will report directly to the Controller with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the CFO.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
Perform month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations
Maintain and reconcile general ledger, bank accounts, client accounts, and collection transactions
Manage trust accounting and ensure accurate allocation of client funds and collections
Prepare financial reports, dashboards, KPI metrics, and detailed variance analysis for management
Perform data analysis to identify trends, discrepancies, operational efficiencies, and financial risks
Monitor cash flow and assist with budgeting and forecasting activities
Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and regulatory requirements
Support external audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting
Develop and improve financial reporting processes, automation, and dashboard reporting tools
Collaborate with operations and management teams to support business objectives
Provide support to the Controller and CFO on financial analysis, reporting, and special projects
Supervise and provide guidance to junior accounting staff as required

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
CPA designation or near completion of CPA program preferred
Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience
Experience in collections, accounts receivable, financial services, or high-volume transaction environments is an asset
Strong financial and technical accounting knowledge
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, formulas, and financial reporting
Experience with data analysis, variance analysis, dashboards, and KPI reporting
Proficiency with accounting software, ERP systems, and reporting tools such as Power BI is an asset
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Assist with other tasks, as necessary, including ad-hoc reports, daily banking, AR, Payroll and licensing
Review all intercompany transactions
