Under the direction of the Senior Manager of Finance, the Controller of Finance and Budget prepares and monitors the Board’s multi-million dollar budget; reviews and develops systems for internal controls; provides expert financial analysis and reports; conducts on-going review and analysis of budget variances; liaises with management and staff; oversees school generated funds; and performs other duties, as assigned by the supervisor. Key job accountabilities include.
Job Description:
Prepares and directs input to the Board’s budget
Recommends annual budget guidelines to senior management
Ensures compliance with Board financial policy and legislative requirements
Conducts ongoing review and analysis of budget variances, including coordinating with other departments
Liaises with management, as well as external, internal and government auditors
Provides expert financial analysis, reports and recommendations
Coordinates financial training of various staff throughout the organization
Reviews and develops systems for internal controls
Oversees school compliance reviews and provides guidance and recommendations
Supervises, directs and evaluates four permanent staff, including professional accountants, and reviews work of one professional accountant in another department
Acts as a resource and may present at Board and Audit Committee meetings
Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Required Qualifications:
University degree in a related field
Chartered Professional Accountant Designation (CPA)
Five years related experience
Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills
Demonstrated hands-on practical knowledge of accounting software, comfortable with new technologies
Ability to learn new financial applications, advanced proficiency with Excel, other MS office applications and Google suite applications
In addition, the following will be considered an asset:
Experience with Microsoft NAV Dynamics,PowerBI, Crystal report writer, K212 HRP (Human Resource and Payroll Management) and Education Financial Information System (EFIS)
School board experience in the Finance area
Supervisory experience
This is a permanent position with an annual salary range of $97,302 to $123,972. An employee benefits package and pension plan are also provided.
