Overview
Broadbill Energy is seeking a Full Stack Software Developer to create and evolve our internal platforms and the cloud infrastructure that powers them. This is a high-trust role with end-to-end responsibility: you'll design and ship features, maintain production systems used across the company, and improve the reliability and scalability of our infrastructure.
You'll work directly with field operations and business stakeholders to solve real-world problems while helping shape our software engineering practices and technical direction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Scope, build, maintain and extend our full-stack internal business software using React/Next.js front-end, Node back-end, PostgreSQL.
- Work with non-technical stakeholders to translate business needs into technical requirements.
- Build and integrate RESTful APIs and backend services in Node.js and Python.
- Manage and improve our Azure container infrastructure (Azure Container Apps, App Service, Container Instances) using Terraform, following infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Maintain and extend CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions + Azure) to keep deployments automated and reliable.
- Write clean, maintainable, well-documented code that scales and is easy for the team to work with.
- Collaborate on database schema design in support of developed app, perform performance tuning (partitioning, materialized views, indexing), and safe migrations on a live system.
- Mentor interns through code reviews and pair programming.
What we're looking for
- 4+ years building and shipping production web applications.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and debug software issues.
- Strong experience with JavaScript/TypeScript, including experience with Excel scripting/automation, React/Next.js, and Node; solid PostgreSQL fundamentals.
- Production experience with a major cloud provider (Azure preferred; AWS/GCP transferable) and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform).
- Comfortable owning CI/CD and deployment processes.
- Able to independently design, implement, and operate production systems following sound engineering best-practices.
- Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with non-technical stakeholders.
Additional Skills that would be an asset:
- Familiarity with BI tools, such as Power BI
- Experience in energy, industrial, logistics, or other asset-heavy industries.
- Experience inheriting and stabilizing an existing codebase.
