About the Role
The Mechanical Maintenance Team Lead for the Process area is part of the Maintenance Team in the Production Department and is responsible for executing the work plan (CM and PM) by directly supervising, developing, and coaching of Rotating equipment and Piping Maintenance Technicians as well as Contract maintenance resources.
The process trains make up LNG Canada’s main cryogenic process containing 4 aero derivative turbines driving 4 multistage centrifugal compressors, reciprocating compressors, Heat Transfer fluid pumping systems, vessels, and all associated auxiliary equipment.
Mechanical MTL is responsible for ensuring that the work is executed safely, within environmental regulations, with high quality and efficiency. This includes setting the work up to be successful, monitoring the progress of the work, intervening as necessary, seeking opportunities to supplement the scheduled work with fill in work, and communicating equipment status. Additionally, the MTL role performs field planning for work that skips the planning phase (i.e., emergency, or urgent work).

- Manage workforce allocation for day-to-day operations, major equipment outages, and turnarounds.

- With HR support, initiate and determine disciplinary action including suspensions, termination, etc., aligned with company policy.
- Ensure recognition program is in place, sustainable, and utilized to positively influence individual performance.
- Participate in hiring and onboarding of new team members to ensure skill alignment and behaviors.
- Staffing of teams including interviews, evaluation of candidates, and supporting hiring decisions for technician-level roles.
- Approve applications for promotion, transfer, and role assignments.
- Manage the well-being of production team members and address all people issues such as leave and overtime effectively.
You will use your expertise to:
The Mechanical Maintenance Team lead will report to the Area Maintenance supervisor and will lead a multi discipline team performing preventative and corrective maintenance activities daily.
This will include support in coordinating the maintenance schedule for their area in collaboration with operations maintenance coordinator and maintenance scheduler to ensure adequate resources are in place to meet the maintenance schedule. Ensuring tasks are performed safely, efficiently and on time, Reporting equipment status to operations team, working towards best-in-class efficiency, leading, supporting and initiating opportunities for digitalization
- Ensure safe and cost-effective maintenance execution of Maintenance Execution process
- Help with prioritization of work notifications
- Manage resourcing and ensuring scheduling information is up to date for maintenance schedulers
- Working with Operations Maintenance Coordinator, schedulers, field leads and fellow MTL’s to draft daily and weekly schedules
- Ensure scheduled work activities ready for execution by reviewing plans, using system checks to verify material and equipment as well as communicating with other groups, i.e., non-routine leads, production, central maintenance, deliveries, etc.
- Provide accurate daily updates to the schedule
- Ensure proper work order close out by reviewing and ensuring quality of equipment history and feedback
- Lead the safe execution of maintenance work plans by: ensuring quality relevant tool box talks for their team; coordinating initial incident response for assigned process unit and reports; FIM investigator for all Personnel incidents; ensuring team compliance to HSE training competencies and safety meeting attendance; identifying the need for critical task analysis (CTA), and initiate requests for CTA development, PTW field assessments, ensuring documents are in place for SWP compliance, regular field presence.
- Ensure competent personnel assigned to work tasks
- Manage the development of team by using Individual Development Plans, Job Competency Profiles and creating gap closure plans; Manage performance of work team by utilizing Performance Appraisals; Develop people through coaching and mentoring reports to achieve development targets
- Ensure timely resolution of priority work requests. This requires the MTL to allocate appropriate personnel to resolve or mitigate issue in a timely manner, coordinate path forward of mitigated issues by interfacing with stakeholders and entering follow up work request, manage impacts to daily and weekly schedules resulting from manpower being allocated to priority work
- Manage costs: employee timesheets; contractor service entries; validate and approve invoices; ensure unused material returned to warehouse; manage tools and equipment rentals for work execution
- Support commissioning of projects through craft / specialty contractors
- Support of other site initiatives such as Turnaround, Outages, Plant upsets, improvement initiatives, contract holding duties within their areas.
- Responsible to ensure quality and continuity of work and to ensure timely and accurate updates are submitted to the scheduler.
To be successful, you will have:
- Journeyperson with Red Seal or Technologist, with minimum 5 years maintenance experience in oil, heavy oil refining or closely related facility or comparable skill set.
- Experience in very Large or Mega Project environment (multi-disciplinary teams, multi culture, multi locations) would be an asset.
- Demonstrated leadership and decision-making skills. Can effectively pull groups together and coordinate action plans to drive resolution.
- Proven experience leading a multi discipline and multicultural workforce
- Able to manage project delivery through own team, contractor and vendors.
- Both fluent and articulate in English, able to manage a team in an inspiring manner.

- Know that during Campaign Maintenance and Turnaround events will require additional effort including longer hours and shift work
- Are willing to work outdoors during inclement weather in all seasons including heavy snowfall and periods of heavy rain.
- Are able to climb ladders and stairs, work at heights and in confined spaces. Plant design conditions provide structures that are significantly taller than common in industry, individuals must be comfortable with heights as well as travel to and from the workface at heights.
- Know that this role may be expected to be on call on a rotational basis during the year and/or during site specific situations.
- Have a Valid Driver’s license
- Know that this is not a fly-in, fly-out rotation role.
