About Convolutions Geoscience
Convolutions Geoscience is a specialized geophysical consulting firm supporting mineral exploration clients across Canada. We deliver rigorous data acquisition oversight, modelling, interpretation and regulatory-compliant reporting that informs critical exploration and investment decisions. As we grow, we are looking for technical talent who take pride in defensible work and direct client relationships
About the Role
The Senior Geophysicist is a senior technical authority within Convolutions Geoscience, responsible for leading complex geophysical project delivery across airborne, ground-based, and multi-method survey programs. The role exists to advance the firm's technical capabilities, ensure the highest standards of data processing, modelling, interpretation, and reporting, and to serve as the primary technical resource for clients, staff, and project teams.
Operating with full professional autonomy, the Senior Geophysicist independently manages multi-project portfolios, leads R&D and software development initiatives, mentors Geoscience Technician staff, and provides the technical rigour necessary to support P.Geo.-signed deliverables. This role carries direct influence over the quality and reputation of the firm's technical output and represents a leadership position within Convolutions' geoscience practice.
Core Responsibilities
A. Data Processing & Technical Oversight
- Lead QA/QC of all acquired geophysical data across survey types including magnetic, radiometric, gravimetric, frequency domain EM, and MobileMT.
- Develop, maintain, and improve proprietary processing and inversion software tools and workflows to address project-specific and methodological challenges.
- Provide technical oversight for all data processing activities conducted by Geoscience Technician staff; set and uphold processing standards across the team.
- Act as the primary internal technical reviewer for datasets before interpretation and client delivery proceeds.
- Manage and oversee the offloading, handling, and format conversion of data collected across contractor-owned and proprietary survey systems.
B. Inversion Modelling & Interpretation Leadership
- Lead 2D/3D inversion modelling using MobileMT, Maxwell, and related platforms; develop and refine inversion parameters for complex and novel datasets.
- Deliver advanced geophysical interpretation integrating multi-method survey data, geological context, and supplemental geo-data.
- Author conclusions, recommendations, and interpretive report sections; serve as the internal reference for modelling methodology and emerging interpretation approaches.
- Provide virtual and in-person training to clients and consultants on inversion modelling of MobileMT and related data.
C. Research, Development & Innovation
- Drive R&D related to geophysical processing, inversion, and modelling methodologies — particularly applied to MobileMT and airborne EM datasets.
- Monitor and integrate relevant advancements in airborne geophysical processing and modelling into active workflows.
- Develop novel tools and processing routines to address unique dataset challenges and build reusable organizational capability.
- Author and co-author technical publications; represent Convolutions Geoscience at technical conferences, symposiums, and professional forums.
D. Reporting, Sign-Off & Regulatory Compliance
- Lead preparation and quality assurance of geophysical reports constituting public records; ensure all deliverables meet ministry and regulatory requirements.
- As a registered P.Geo., provide, support, or qualify professional sign-off on applicable client deliverables and ministry submissions.
- Ensure reports include all required components based on survey type — inversions, 3D maps, and other regulatory outputs — and are submitted on time.
- Maintain rigorous documentation standards across all project phases.
E. Client Engagement & Project Management
- Serve as the senior technical point of contact for assigned clients; manage client relationships from initial scoping through final delivery.
- Communicate proactively with clients on upcoming surveys, survey status, technical findings, and delivered results to ensure clients are technically informed throughout.
- Lead client presentations, technical briefings, and inversion modelling training sessions — _both virtual and in-person.
- Represent Convolutions Geoscience at PDAC, AME Roundup, Geophysical Society events, Saskatchewan Open House, and other relevant industry forums.
- Support business development through technical credibility, conference participation, and proactive client relationship management.
F. Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Train, coach, and develop Geoscience Technician (Level I and Level II) staff across technical processes, quality standards, and professional practice.
- Delegate project tasks and supervise work across inversion modelling and data processing workflows; provide structured feedback on technical outputs.
- Provide formal and informal mentorship to support the technical development and career progression of junior staff.
- Contribute to recruitment assessment, onboarding planning, and performance review processes as requested by the CEO.
