Salary Range: $31.39 - $39.52 per hour ($65,290.94 - $82,200.98 per annum)

Clinical duties: not exceeding above stated skills and capabilities.
- Performs hemo-dialysis as scheduled.
- Participates in specialty clinics locally or in urban centres as scheduled.
- Performs routine primary care treatments, such as:
- Conducting foot assessments and dressings.
- Removing sutures.
- Administering IM and SC injections.
- Screens patients for early signs of renal failure and/or diabetes problems.
- Liaises with primary care clinic staff, physicians, consultants, social workers, Community Health Nurses, clinic administration, Dietitian, University researchers, and other University staff regarding clinic and patient care issues.
- Assists patients with completion of medical forms if necessary.
- Teaches other staff regarding triage of renal patient problems.
- Contacts patients for return appointments and notification of results as directed.
- Maintains necessary supplies as required.
- Maintains appropriate file systems and records.
- Develops and maintains clearly written policies and procedures, logs, and records for all areas of clinic activities.
Teaching duties:
- Teaches individuals about renal failure prevention through dietary and lifestyle counselling.
- Teaches other healthcare workers about renal failure problems.
- Teaches nursing students in aspects of renal health and prevention and treatment of renal failure.
- Provides outreach teaching and screening to all Island Lake communities.
- Liaises with primary care staff, public health, physicians, consultants, social workers, dietitians, and other community resources to determine patient and staff learning needs.
Performs other related duties as necessary or as assigned.
MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIRED:
- LPN with current CLPNM registration, without restrictions required or
- RN/BN with current CRNM registration, without restrictions required.
- Manitoba Nephrology Nursing Course required. Training is provided through MNNC if required. Return of service commitment is required if MNNC training is being provided.
- Current Basic Life Support certification required.
EXPERIENCE:
- One to two years of renal nursing experience preferred, preferably in a northern clinic or related health care setting.
- Experience with nutrition and lifestyle counselling, desired.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated good judgement in serving the needs of the Unit and patients, required.
- Must be self-motivated and able to work independently.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills, required.
- Diplomacy and professionalism with all clinic staff, required.
- Demonstrated sensitivity in dealings with culturally related issues, required.
- Demonstrated initiative and be able to work in a busy environment with limited supervision, required.
- Must maintain a high level of confidentiality at all times.
- Familiarity with the community, culture, and the area, desired.
- Demonstrated ability to teach other staff, required.
- Computer skills or willingness to learn these is essential (Word processing and familiarity with databases an asset), required.
- A satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
