About the Role
We are seeking an Intermediate Interior Designer to lead the design and documentation of hospitality and luxury interior environments with increasing autonomy and accountability. This role is responsible for advancing concept development, technical coordination, material direction, FF&E, and presentation deliverables.
Working closely with Project Directors and Senior Designers, the Intermediate Interior Designer contributes proactively to project direction, brings forward ideas, and supports the mentorship of junior team members. This role balances creative thinking with technical rigor, ensuring work is delivered accurately, efficiently, and aligned with project intent.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
Design & Documentation
- Taking responsibility of concept development, space planning, and material direction.
- Developing and contributing to presentation packages, design boards, renderings, and visual storytelling.
- Producing and coordinating drawing sets including plans, elevations, sections, details, and schedules with accuracy and consistency.
- Managing FF&E research, specifications, and tagging with ownership and accountability.
- Preparing and coordinating documentation for tender, permit, fabrication, and construction packages.
- Taking ownership of assigned scope, delivering work with reduced oversight while aligning with project goals and timelines.
Research & Development
- Driving precedent, vendor, and material research aligned with the project vision.
- Evaluating and curating material selections with consideration for design intent, performance, and budget.
- Contributing to iterative design exploration, advancing studies of form, detail, and finish, while increasingly bringing forward own ideas.
- Presenting and putting forward ideas, insights, and questions to the team, to further advance the evolution of the design direction
Coordination & Project Delivery Support
- Coordinating with internal teams, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and alignment across disciplines.
- Coordinating with external consultants and participating in coordination meetings
- Communicating with vendors regarding samples, pricing, technical data, and lead times, following through independently
- Reviewing and contributing to technical drawing submissions with a high level of accuracy, ensuring design intent is clearly communicated in construction drawings.
- Understanding the project brief, parameters, and deliverables, and how they impact their work.
- Working within project schedules, managing time effectively across multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Guiding junior team members, supporting their work and contributing to team efficiency.
All duties and responsibilities will be performed in English.
Required Experience and Qualifications
- 3 to 5 years of interior design or architectural experience in hospitality or luxury interior environments.
- Degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or related degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s).
- Advanced experience with AutoCAD, Sketchup, and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator).
- Technical ability in Rhino and/or Revit.
- Demonstrated experience designing hospitality, retail, residential or other high end interior environments requiring a high degree of customization and attention to detail.
- Experience preparing comprehensive drawing packages, including plans, elevations, sections, details, schedules and specifications.
- Experience with FF&E selection, specification development, and coordination with vendors and suppliers.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, fabrication processes, and project delivery within hospitality and luxury design projects.
- Experience participating in all phases of the design process, from concept development through construction administration.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively present design concepts and technical information.
- Professional certification an asset.
Terms of Employment
This is a full-time, permanent position based at Studio Paolo Ferrari’s office located at 300 Campbell Avenue, Suite 200, Toronto, Ontario, M6P 3V6.
The position is scheduled for 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The annual salary range for this position is CAD$75,000 to CAD$82,000, depending on experience. In addition, the successful candidate will be eligible to participate in the company’s group benefits program, including extended health and dental coverage, life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, and long-term disability insurance.
