About the Role
The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) supports students in developing effective communication skills
that enable them to participate fully in their educational experience. The SLP provides assessment,
intervention, and consultation services to students across Kindergarten to Grade 12 programming and the
Kaya Pomeh Adult Education program within the Kitaskinaw Education Authority (KEA).
This position falls under the Inclusive Services Department and works as part of a multidisciplinary team
supporting inclusive education and student success.
The SLP works collaboratively with teachers, educational assistants, school leadership, families, and other
specialists to support students with speech, language, communication, and social communication
challenges.
Services may include individual therapy, small group interventions, classroom-based supports, and
consultation with
educators to ensure students can access curriculum and learning opportunities effectively.

Duties to include, but not limited to
Assessment and Evaluation
Conduct speech and language assessments to identify communication needs.
Evaluate areas such as:
● Speech articulation
● Receptive and expressive language
● Social communication
● Fluency
● Voice
● Communication skills related to learning needs
● Prepare assessment reports and recommendations to support student learning.
Intervention and Therapy
● Provide individualized or small group speech-language therapy.
● Provide hearing assessments.
● Facilitate whole class based around sounds, words etc.
● Develop and implement intervention plans tailored to students’ communication needs.
● Support students in improving communication skills that support academic and social success.
Classroom and Program Consultation
● Collaborate with teachers to support communication development within classroom environments.
● Provide strategies and tools that help educators support students with speech and language needs.
● Assist with adapting learning materials or communication supports to enhance accessibility.
Inclusive Education Support
● Participate in multidisciplinary student support teams within the Inclusive Services Department.
● Contribute to individualized student programming and intervention plans; inclusive of reviewing
and creating goals.
● Provide recommendations for accommodations and communication supports.
Adult Education Support (Kaya Pomeh)
● Provide consultation and support for adult learners in the Kaya Pomeh Adult Education Program who
may experience communication challenges impacting learning.
● Assist instructors in supporting adult learners with speech or language needs related to
academic success and communication development.
Collaboration with Families and Community
● Communicate with families regarding student communication development and support strategies.
● Provide guidance to families on supporting communication development at home.
● Collaborate with community partners and external service providers when appropriate.
Documentation and Reporting
● Maintain accurate records of assessments, therapy sessions, and student progress.
● Prepare reports and documentation required by the education authority.
● Contribute to program planning, data collection, and service evaluations within the Inclusive
Services Department.
Other duties as assigned by the Inclusive Services Manager and Senior Manager of Education.

Understanding or speaking nêhiyawêwin (Cree language) is considered an asset.

● Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology
Certification Requirements
● Licensed and registered with the Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologists and
Audiologists (ACSLPA).
● Clear Criminal Record Check with the Vulnerability Sector and Child Welfare Intervention Check is required.
Preferred Experience
● Experience providing speech-language assessments and interventions.
● Experience working with children or youth in educational or clinical settings.
● Experience working within school-based environments
● Experience supporting students with diverse learning needs
● Experience working with Indigenous students and communities

Conditions of Employment
- Standard work schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 – 4:00
- Required to work a total of 40 hours per week (Essential Service)
- Required to volunteer 100 hours per school year
- 10-month-based employee, with summers off per the annual operational calendar.
- May require occasional lifting of light office supplies and equipment.
- Work occurs across multiple school sites and education programs.
- Services may be delivered in classrooms, therapy spaces, or small group environments.
- Travel between KEA schools and Kaya Pomeh Adult Education locations may be required.
- Participation in cultural activities, school events, and community engagement opportunities may be required.
- Must sign and adhere to the Enoch Cree Nation Confidentiality Agreement upon hire.
