Job Overview

A Pressure Vessel Welder specializes in, repairing, and welding high-pressure containers, boilers, and tanks, typically using GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, and SMAW processes to meet strict ASME Section VIII code compliance by following approved welding procedures. They interpret blueprints, prepare metal components, and inspect welds to ensure structural integrity.

Duties

· Read and interpret blueprints for welding specifications.

· Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as, gas metal arc welding (GMAW), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), (GTAW) Gas Tungsten arc Welding.

· Able to use Carbon Arc Gouging

· Ability to weld various materials, ie. carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, chromoly steel.

· Able to safely operate various grinder equipment.

· Maintain safe work practices.

· Take all safety training courses and apply them to daily work activities.

· Monitor parts usage and report on any material issues.

· Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology, compliance and repair techniques.

· Safely operate overhead cranes. Keep work area clean and safe.

· Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

· Successful completion of a three-year apprenticeship program.

· Successful completion of the Certificate of Qualification exam.

· Certified welder as per the appropriate provincial regulatory authority.

Physical ability to lift up to 50lbs.
Safety equipment will be required, i.e hard hat, steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, ear protection, dust mask or respirator, etc.
Ability to work in an environment with dust/fumes.
Ability to work overtime as required.
Hazards associated with trade.
Work both indoors and outdoors.

· Work in awkward positions at times, sit, stand and lay in position.

Work in confined spaces.
Work at heights, off scaffolding, ladders and elevated platforms.
Ability to work in extreme heat.
